Control customization

Custom controls aren't very good. You can only assign smash to the c-stick, among other things, and my c-stick is broken. On all of my controllers (seriously, it's awful).
Could you mod the custom controls so that there's more options? Please?
Just a low-priority suggestion. Thanks.

What do you want to set smash to other than c-stick? What button do you even propose? The d-pad? It doesn't make any sense.
Fix your controller or buy a new one.

First, raise your C-stick upwards and blow really hard near the bottom.

Then In-Game, hold X+Y+Start.

Report back afterwards with status on Cstick

X, R, and yes, the D-pad would all suit me just fine. Is it that difficult to imagine?

It's difficult to imagine because the C-stick set to Smash only works because there's a direction. Setting it to X or R wouldn't have direction, so you'd have to use the control stick. The d-pad would require you take your thumb off the control stick.
If you're going to use your left thumb anyway the button set to smash would be A already.

So, Smash can only be set to C-stick because it's the only input on the controller that can possibly use it and have any effect.

Pros set c-stick to attack.
Some might. I know Metroid did (and probably still does). But c-stick set to attack has some unfortunate glitches. Namely if you put in inputs for the c-stick in too quick of succession, the later input(s) will be ignored. The other thing is that despite up-c being up smash when it's set to attack, you can't up smash out of run with c-stick without actually jump canceling it. The pay off of course is that the diagonal input is jab/neutral air, which is admittedly really awesome. The disadvantages are harsh though, particularly the first one.

I don't even understand what this means. If you were to set smash to a static button, what do you expect would come out of that?

When I push the smash button, I smash. Instantly. No charge. Just like the c-stick.
When I push the smash button while tilting the control stick down, I down smash. Instantly. No charge. Just like the c-stick.
When I push the smash button while tilting the control stick up, I up smash. Instantly. No charge. Just like the c-stick.
If I were to set it to the D-pad, then I could use my right thumb to press it. I have weird hands.
This is why my signature is my signature.

You're incredibly wrong believing in how simple it is. You can't expect people to have the same misunderstanding as you.

The C-Stick set to Smash doesn't mean there's a button in the game that says "Smash". The game interprets the C-stick as analog stick movement 100% and a release of the A button. That's what "Smash" means. You can't set a single button it because there would be no direction for the game interpret. Setting it to take the direction the analog stick is already in would be a whole new input to design and implement.

It IS that complex.

...That's all correct.
Except for the complex part; I guess complex is a relative term.

If you feel you deal with so many people so regularly that you have to put "This isn't that complex!" in your signature, did you ever think that maybe everyone else isn't the problem? Maybe you're communicating your ideas poorly. We ask questions because we don't fully understand. We can't read your mind.
We especially don't know you apparently already know everything we explain. We explain because your suggestion make it seem you don't fully understand.

Or, maybe your signature is right! Maybe all the world is full of simpletons who just don't grasp your clear yet concise explanations. Wouldn't it still benefit you to start explaining things more completely for us plebeians?

Point is, fix your C-sticks or get new controllers. The C-stick is amazeballs.

Why don't you just do regular smashes like everyone else, mash the **** out of the joystick and press/release A?

This isn't that complex! Ugh.
