Consistent Dash Dancing?

So, I've been trying to level up my tech skill, and I've noticed that my dash dancing is kind of sub par. I don't really know how best to do it.... I can get it for a few seconds, but I eventually flub an input and either get a short hop, or I guess I tilt downwards and ruin the "flow." Any advice? Is it the way I'm wiggling my thumbstick?

Just means your thumb is drifting up or down. It happens in the beginning. There really isn't a need to sit down for hours and practice it. Just play more and it irons out.

I have found dash dancing varies greatly from character to character. To see this such difference, try dash dancing with DK for a little. Then switch to Samus. You're going to have a bad time.

I think you just need to experiment and really think about the physical mechanics of the way you move your joystick. What part of your thumb do you use to contact the joystick? How do you grip the controller with your hands? If, for instance, the joystick moves to a different part of your thumb as you dance dance, then you should expect inconsistent inputs as a result.

Its all just developing the right muscle memories, just focus on keeping the joystick straight.

Huh. I never ran into this problem of vertical motions. I only ever had the issue of DD fast enough (Sheik) or getting the dash lengths down.

Oh, and dash dance with purpose. That's more important than being able to keep it up for a period of time.

I have no problem with all chars XD. I get the Rythym for the first second and go all out mashing. My Dash Dancing is stupid fast and people don't understand how I do it... While still having control over my character. There's nothing much to say but play games that use a joystick vigorously. Mario Kart Double Dash and DS will improve your thumbs speed.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I think I'm realizing it's a matter of trying to do it too quickly and sloppy, rather than methodical and smooth. Also I play Marth :p

i sometimes practice tight dding and moonwalking by scrolling on the character select screen or stage select screen
you can also practice varying your dd length between tick marks on PS

Try practicing with that in mind.
Travel across stages with only DD and subtle control of the dash lengths, allowing you to go more to the left or right, or on the contrary, pick a spot and try to stay within the boundaries or something.

I also had problems with Dash Dancing before - I would only be able to get it for a second or two before I couldn't do it anymore (my character started going into the running animation instead of continuing into the dash animation). I found out that the controller was the problem, because when I switched to another controller I could Dash Dance perfectly fine. Of course practice and trying to be accurate with your fingers is important to dash dance properly. But if nothing works, then your controller might be the problem.

One subtle thing people seem to often forget is that you don't have to smash the stick like a smash attack in order to DD. Idk the exact details, but somewhere around the halfway point between neutral and fully pressed is the point where you can dash. If you are trying to do a really quick adjustment, it may be harder to go all the way to one side for just a split second compared to only going halfway. This also makes it more natural to fox trot (dashing twice in the same direction without turning around).
