Considering switching mains, advice?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section.

I've played "competitive" Smash (I no longer play four player Smash on jank stages, I learn tech skill, I practice and focus on improving) for coming up on one year now. I am a Marth main.

But, I'm in a dilemma. I have started to play more and more Fox in friendlies lately. I find Fox feels more "natural" to me, and Marth feels "forced". When I first picked my main in Melee, it was very arbitrary, I didn't really think too much about it. I wonder if Fox is a better fit for me?

Despite being a player who has often neglected tech skill (I play a lot of friendlies against better players, but don't dedicate enough time in the lab for movement, general tech, punish game), I think Fox is fun enough I will put the time in.

The question is, should I switch, and if so, how? Continue to work on Marth in the lab alongside Fox, while playing Marth in tournament and Fox heavily in friendlies? Just bring Fox in for Puff and Sheik initially? Hard switch and have my tournament results (and PR) take a fairly significant hit?

I'm really in a dilemma here. I don't know what to do. I don't want to switch then regret it later. I don't want to half-ass switch and regret that later instead. How should I make up my mind?

Get the notion out of your head that you need amazing techskill to be good as fox. Good decisions will work just as well. (I think nowadays Fiction is the prime example of a great fox, who isn't doing anything out of the ordinary techskill-wise)

Regarding the way to switch: I think both ways have been done, but more people sticked with it when they did a complete switch right away.

if you really enjoy playing fox and it feels natural to you, then by all means just make the switch and don't worry about your ranking/results. you gotta have fun while playing this game XD. your rankings may take a hit for a while, but how important is that to you? just play fox and keep improving. if you're truly enjoying yourself while doing something, it will be easier to improve at it. you won't feel "forced" at all when practicing and you'll find so many ways to innovate and stay interested.
