Yeah, I think it's possible, seriously imagine...

New Costumes
Retro Stages
New Trophies
New Items
Possible New Characters (Clones)
New Event Matches
Alternate Break the Targets

I mean this game is already going to be HUGE! SSBM was huge and it was rushed, and used technology that is 6 years old. And I still discover new stuff to this day. This game is going to be bigger, but imagine it with Connect24. Waking up and getting a new stage, or a new challenge. I mean, I'm not saying everyday, but imagine how cool it would be if after a year or two, we got something new every month or so. Just as long as we don't have to pay for them. I mean, even paying for things would be fine, just as long as we don't have to pay for Characters, that wouldn't be fair. Anyways what are your thoughts on this? Is it possible? Would you like it?

This topic was touched on in another thread, but as far as I'm concerned that's expected to happen. I can't see why they wouldn't do that.

I can imagine something along the lines of Big Brain Academy on Wii. Although I'm not sure on the specifics, I do know that this game does something involving high scores. Imagine: competing with friends for the fastest target test time, the longest combo, or the highest score in Classic Mode.

for the highest combo I would be an a**hole and use that Ice climbers glitch so my friends would be like Wtf how is that possible. It prolly gonna be fixed anyway.

Anyway ontopic now

This would be very amazing and would definitely bring smash bros even further away from other fighting games. It would also be nice if sakurai possibly let people with pretty good records beta test new ideas that might be implemented into the game.

I made a topic like this, but someone kept flaming me about how no server could handle that much bandwidth(even though the shopping channel, Xbox Live, and several other sytems do), so It got locked.

Anyway, this is a great idea. It is limited to some extent though. The reason games take so little memory to record is because everything required to run the game is on the disk. If you were to add on to it, it would take up room in your system's memory. Otherwise it's good.

We have an edit button. :/

BTW, over about 5 years, I'd say that's a lot of updates. You can't store downloadable content to an SD. Only saves.

I don't get why Nintendo did the whole Connect24, they hardly ever use it, they might as well use it for this game.
A a corporation, they probably did the Connect24 in order to make money from selling old school games to people who don't want to/don't know how to use emulation.

They also offered the Internet Channel and the Everybody Votes Channel through Connect24. There will be other WiiWare offered in the future, too, I can almost guarantee it.

You know, it's not impossible. If Nintendo wants to do it, they can.

There's talk of a hard drive add-on coming for the Wii soo....??

Besides, extra stages, costumes or charachters won't really take up too much. I've downloaded mods for UT, CS and they were smilar for costumes, levels etc. And some didn't even take up a MB on my PC.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, how much space could it possibly take?

Sounds like a fine idea. Nothing huge would get added through it, so it'll be okay.

If they make a hard drive add on this would be good, otherwise there isn't enough room.

You DO NOT change gameplay of a fighting game after it is released. No, bad. You may release sequels (Guilty Gear, Street Fighter), you may release new costumes and ****, but absolutely nothing that would change the way the game plays should ever come out after the game drops, including balance changes, new characters and new stages. It disrupts game balance.

I don't think new stages would be so bad. I do agree with everything else said though.

It's business. The question is:

Will increased sales of Brawl and overall increased public opinion of Nintendo increase enough to offset the cost of this?

I would say that the answer is "no." The number of additional brawl copies sold would be infinitesimal. Since these are only minor changes (costumes, new stages, etc.) it won't really change how great people think the game is.

Finally, the biggest reason not to do this is because as soon as they open up the game to being modified by downloadable code, they've opened it up to hackers. They would have to put a lot more work (and thus, more money) into initial security and continuously revisit it. Online play would suffer because of hackers, and that part of the game might even lose popularity.

Yes, I know that other consoles are dipping into this territory, but I really think it's a questionable business move. Sure, a lot of people like it, but how much more are you actually selling?

A hard drive's good and all (I'm all for it), but I'd much rather have Nintendo let us use SD cards for something other than back-up. Those things go up to 8GB nowadays, and they're way more portable than hard drives.

EDIT: I'd also prefer the use of flash drives over portable hard drives.

Yeah, it has to be a real harddrive. (or something not flash memory).
Flash memory isn't quality storage media, let alone a small amount of it.

However, with said rumors of a HDD addon, adding new characters, stages, costumes, etc., is possible.
But of course, as stated, there's no money involved, thus creating no reason for Nintendo to do so. Sure, with the addition of a character that wasn't in the game originally, they could sell say another 200 games in 3/5ths of the states in the US.
If they charge for characters, they could/should/would use the point system they have for the VC. It would probably work wonders, and it's cheap.
I'd pay $10-$20 bucks for a new character or two.
