Conditioning outside of the game

This is a topic I don't see discussed very often, but it is something that I think about every time I play Melee. I mean to discuss things in general that you do to prepare yourself for your optimal playing ability.

I'm a very technical player, but I've found that my tech skill has been known to be on and off. For awhile I considered it to be me simply having on and off days. But as I payed more attention to my off days, I noticed that there are particular differences in the actual setting of my play that greatly affect my performance. Sometimes when my tech skill is off, it's because my controller feels sticky. I notice it most when I'm trying to do multishines and my finger just can't seem to get from y to b as fast as I'm used to. Then I noticed that the times when I'm at my best tech skill are often after I have just eaten Popeyes, and there's chicken grease on my fingers (I eat a lot of Popeyes). So I tried out putting a dab of vaseline on my hands before I play, and it has completely eliminated my tech skill problems.

Something else I have noticed is that my posture and distance from the television greatly affects my ability to focus on a match. I cannot play sitting straight up, and the more bent over I am the better I can focus. I don't know why, but it has become self-evident to me. There is also a certain distance from the TV that I need to be to feel comfortable. It varies with the size of the TV, but I can generally judge it for myself. It becomes a problem at tournaments sometimes when there's people at a setup behind me and I can't get the optimal distance. It's actually very detrimental for me personally. If I can't get a good distance from the TV it throws off my mental game. I can't chase techs as easily, cover options, or recognize opportunities. In short, I guess it's would suffice to say that it slows my reaction time down.

Those are two of my personal conditioning aspects that I consider outside of the game, and I'm just curious to see if other people have considered similar things, or if other people can just play the game the same regardless of outside circumstances.

I play best when I'm being recorded. Then when I do something funny or awesome, I know I'll get to show it off to thousands of people. It's fun. Playing without showing off feels so meaningless

This is actually pretty common. The most prominent Smasher who I can think of right now who leans towards the TV a LOT is PewPewU. If you look at nearly any video of him playing with a facecam, you can tell that he is leaning forward a significant amount.
