Smash 3DS Concerns Regarding New 3DS And Smash 3DS

I will try to make this short.

Smash 3DS will be released for North America on October 3 but not the new 3DS (maybe next year for us?). We all know that Smash 3DS will be more suited to play for the new 3DS due to it's more advanced hardware and it's new buttons. For those who didn't know, the current 3DS models can "barely handle" the game, users in Japan have confirmed that Miiverse as well as other apps cannot be used while the game is suspended. When exiting the demo, the 3DS has to soft reset (I read somewhere that it does this to save and make space for RAM, I don't know how these things work though) and during the Nintendo Treehouse stream the 3DS forced closed the game when they were about to start a match. Even pressing the home button during the game takes longer than usual to suspend the software.

My main concern is that when we get Smash 3DS and play it on our 3DS's, the save data as well as other data the game creates will be stored in that system. When we get the new 3DS, obviously, everyone will want to play it on that system but with the data being on the old model the only solution would be a data transfer like they did with the Wii U and Wii. But not all of us would like to transfer our data and leave our current 3DS models there with no purpose. I still have my Wii and chose not to do the data transfer because it would have just used up space on my Wii U and I wouldn't want my Wii to just lie there and collect dust. Plus, it's backwards compatible.

Here are the only solutions I can think of:

- Nintendo should give us the option on what data we want transferred to the new system.

- If the above doesn't happen and it transfers all data like Wii on Wii U: Buy a new or used 3DS and use it exclusively for Smash and when the new 3DS is released, only that data will be transferred since that will be the only data it has. I know it may be a waste of money, but if we are not given the option to choose what gets transferred and you still want to use your current 3DS this is the only solution I can think of. We don't know if this new 3DS will accept DS and DSi games.

I see your concerns, and I was just as afraid on you. I really don't want to buy a new 3DS and have to transfer all my crap, as well as being left over with a useless 3DS as the new one will than have all my content and smash bros. But I don't see a point in still wasting your money on a temporary 3DS for smash bros? I'm still a bit upset on the idea that it can barely be handled on the current 3DS and 3DS XL.

It would be the only option though. I might just get another 3DS just in case, I have the Zelda A Link Between Worlds 3DS and there are a few 3DS's out there with good designs, like the NES 3DS that will be released soon.

Speaking of a link between worlds, I finally got back to playing it and I just finished that mini temple with the boss that spins around and you have to slice at it. Great game so far but I know I have a lot more to go. I just have a regular blue 3DS XL, but yeah I understand what you mean.

Nintendo allowing people to only transfer specific content to the New 3DS sounds useful. Like, I can transfer some of my favorite games to the new system and give my old 3DS to someone else with all the other content I didn't transfer as a gift if they don't plan on buying the New 3DS.

Another thing to add, looking at the title of the topic (so hopefully this isn't actually off-topic)--the New 3DS has more computer storage and processing power than the regular 3DS.

If Sakurai had released the Wii U version of Smash 4 first, then made the 3DS version available to play using the New 3DS' extra powers, then maybe, just maybe, the Ice Climbers could have been saved. After all, supposedly the game had trouble with them due to the 3DS' weaker capabilities.

It might have been upsetting to make the new version of Smash on 3DS only available for the newer version, but it's better than, say, Sakurai later releasing a Smash 3DS 2 which uses the New 3DS for exclusive content like said Ice Climbers, making it so that people have realized they bought an inferior version of Smash earlier and have to cough up money for the new game along with the new system. I just want Ice Climbers back you guys ;_;

This pretty much. I plan on giving my 3DS XL to my sister after transferring all my content to the new one, that is if I end up buying the new one.

I guess you could always go for the physical copy of the game if you want to solely use that save data for the new 3DS.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question?

I'll be buying the physical copy, but if I would get the digital version I believe the same issue would apply.

When the new 3DS comes out all of us will have already advanced through the game on our current 3DS's. Knowing that it's better to play the game in the new 3DS due to it's better hardware we will be forced to transfer all our data to this new 3DS if Nintendo doesn't give us an option on what data to transfer. Transferring all the data will leave our current 3DS's with no use as well as just use up the new 3DS's internal memory. I still want to keep and use my current 3DS when the new 3DS comes out.

I could have sworn that all your data is saved within the cartridge with the physical copy. I guess I can see this being a bit of an issue for some who may opt for digital but I believe the physical one has all the save data stored within the cartridge itself so you can play on any 3DS with your save data still intact. Unless this has been changed for newer releases that I'm not aware of.... :/

That's right, save data in the cartridge. I never thought of that, I forgot about this. This... this changes everything =O

What about Streetpass and Spotpass data? As well as other kinds of data the game creates? Do they get stored in the SD card? If that's the case then we can just copy that data into the new 3DS SD card. If not, and the extra data is stored in the system then it's the same thing all over again.

If its anything like Fire Emblem Awakening, then yes, Street Pass data is saved internally on the cart.

I'm wondering the same if patches can be applied.

I would definitely go for a physical copy day one... but ya know... Smash hype... might have to settle for a digital copy for day one and get a physical one later... I mean from the looks of it, unlocking stuff won't be to difficult in the 3ds version.
