RAM: 1666 DDR3 RAM 4 gig
HD: 640 gb Seagate
Gfx Card - ATI Radeon 5870
Case - Thermaltake v9

Replacing stock fan: Thermaltake Contac 29 120mm CPU cooler

Monitor: Keep using I have currently
Power: Case comes with


Roughly a $1000 build. What do you guys think?

Seems awesome. Wish I had that. On a side note, I find NVIDIA to make better cards than ATI, and if you'll be running Linux(which will take one to two hundred dollars of the total price) definately get a NVIDIA.

Gentoo is mainly for power users =] You customize your own firewall, build your own kernel*, install w/e you want on there like fluxbox etc. I hate KDE so Flux all the way.

Gentoo has 4-5 stages of where you want to start to install.
Stage 1: You literally build everything youself: kernel, grub, Hd mount etc
2-? : I forget =P since I usually start from stage 1

*IF you decide to do it.
