Many people have recommended newbies learn to short hop, fast fall, and shield grab. I agree that these are the most important things you can learn. They are fundamental. Then in games like melee players try to learn AT's. However, I think the community neglects to talk about/teach things that are not really movement/control options but more mental. These are things you begin to learn going into an intermediate level but most people don't discuss.
I am talking about things like tomahawking, cross-ups, pivot grabs, tech-chasing, spacing strategies (even just walking away), etc. I can't even name that many. But I think learning to implement these things can improve your gameplay A LOT. Then there are little things that players do. Like Mr. R spaces and baits a regular get up at the ledge, then immediately rolls behind you and backthrows for the kill.
What kind of techniques do you feel are super helpful? I understand that some things should be left to each player's creativity and character specific stuff, but I think sharing universal competitive techniques like tomahawking to more player's would help a lot of people, including me, to improve.
