Hey everyone this will be a guide to all the tactics you will need to know to win tournaments!:marthmelee::nessmelee::mewtwomelee: (I will update this thread every one to two days)

Reference: This guide will be talking about controls in Gamecube controller terms.

Tactic 1: Short Hopping-Short hopping is when you lightly tap the jump button, X or Y and your character will jump about half the distance in the air. This may seem a bit useless at first (trust me I used to think this was the most useless tactic of all) but it pays off. For characters like Marth, who has a very quick forward air. You can dash across the stage short hop and do a forward air. This is a very quick and hard to dodge strategy that can be used by other characters just using different air attacks.

Tactic 2: L-Canceling-Shortened term for Lag canceling. This technique was first in Smash Bros. 64 where it completely canceled out lag on air attacks. However it only cancels 50% in Melee and Project M. L-canceling is when you are using an aeiral attack and press L or R right before you are about to hit the ground and it can cancel half of the time that you normally would be immoblilzed on the ground. This can be used on all aeiral moves and can help you speed up your charachter on the ground. The best example in my opinion to see this is to do this with Link's down air and you will really notice a difference.

Tactic 3: Wavedashing- This was the first competitve discovered for Smash Bros. Melee. This improves your mobility, you can escape out of your shield with wavedashing, and many more things to keep your opponent on their toes. How you perform this is short hopping, and air dodging at an angle to the angle in your controller between the 90 degree angle of the bottom notch and horizontal notch. This techinique does not come to you over night, it take a lot of practicing and getting it into your muscle memory the perfect timing for the wavedash to occur.

There are a lot of guides, done by highly experienced players, like this. I suggest if you're gonna make a guide at least format it in a way that it would be legible, no hate though and GL on it.

You should just finish the whole guide and then post it. Bumping your thread every day is kind of unnecessary, especially since there are already tons of comprehensive guides for advanced techniques.

I think its great how it is, I just think that you should add some more character examples for some of the tactics. Some videos would help as well.

I think you should go into setups and stuff that could be universal for the entire cast. Focus more on teaching how to stay alive longer and punish faster and harder.
