How do you know if a skin is compatible with project m and what happens if you use a skin that isn't compatible?

How do you know if a skin is compatible with project m and what happens if you use a skin that isn't compatible?

Unless whatever version of PM wasn't released since the skin's last edit, it usually says whether or not it works or doesn't.

If it's not, it'll crash the game, but data will be intact, so no risks (but still keep some backups just in case)

cause I have some skins but whenever I load them project m starts to revert to brawl and im wondering if that's the case

I don't think the costumes are responsible. As I said, if they're not compatible, they crash the game while using them.
