So I am a first time competive player who just went to my first locals getting easily 0-2'd of course. That wasn't my problem though. My problem was when I voiced an opinion, "Sheik is not a bad matchup for Peach" I got told it wasn't that simple and I tried to talk to them about it, Peach's options versus Sheik's, and I sort of understood why it wasn't as easy as crouch cancel, d-tilt, nair out of shield. But my problem was when after talking to the Sheik and Peach player about it. The Sheik player was mad smack talking me to his friends telling them what a scrub I was for thinking Peach versus Sheik isn't as bad as Fox/Peach; he told me it was 65:35 in Sheik's favour at best. He was mad talking me about how it was probably my first tournament ever and I couldn't even know anything about the game because this was probably my first time playing it at all. I was standing right behind him and he just looked back at me and smirked. Yes it was my first tournament ever but that doesn't make it any better for to do something that is such a **** move to person who wants to be part of your community. So this is my question to everyone else about stuff in the Smash community, specifically Melee, that rubs you the wrong way. I want to see if I can spark a discussion about this and maybe learn something that a tech skill thread can't teach you about playing Melee.

I mean that guy seems pretty rude, not sure what else we can say
Yeah I was just wondering about it being a common thing just mostly because I am going through a lot right now and I am really thinking about community and what it means to people. I know there is always people who are just vile but it's just troublesome to me that this happens to people who may not be able to voice their feelings like I did last night to the TO. I was so close to just walking out and letting it consume my thoughts and feelings.

Definitely not everyone is like that. I think what happens sometimes is we talk trash with our friends and some people think it's appropriate to do with new people for whatever reason. Overall though I've found most people are pretty welcoming

Like the previous poster said, every community has people like that but from what I can tell most people are pretty nice and open about listening to other peoples opinion. Sorry you had a bad experience, hope it doesn't scare you from trying to go to tournaments and getting better.

What region are you from? But yea, all have their ****ty people and awesome people.

I come from Montréal, which is one of the most competitive and individualistic scenes. And I main Bowser; it was harsh and it still is. But if you like the game and make good friends you will find a reason to stay. o/

Sheik/peach worse than fox peach? LOL. Sheik wins by a noticeable amount, but at top level Fox is definitely harder to deal with.

My advice is don't talk smash with deutch bagels. Practice, spank that guy 2-0, and shake his hand.
