Hey I have recently gotten into the competitive scene and I love PM and Roy in that game but when i go to smashfests here all they play is melee( i don't mind melee i just prefer PM). Melee Roy is just really bad so i can not main him in this game. I just cant decide who to main. I can play Falcon, Ganon, Mario, and Doc pretty okay, but i know that its not good enough for competitive. Yesterday i faced a really good Fox and i was actually thinking of putting time into either Fox or Falco and secondaries could possibly be Marth, Falcon, Ganon, and the Marios. I have 20XX to practice L canceling and all that fun stuff but overall i have a really hard time dealing with pressure and i have been told i need to work on movement and punish game( because i play Roy in PM). If you could drop any suggestions i would appreciate it a lot. And if anything is unclear just ask and i can try and help.

Play one of the top 8 characters.

Secondaries can come after you've learned the basics.

Movement helps against pressure, as you can position better, and a good punish game is important to capitalize on techs and grabs.

Do you like having range or being a fast faller more? Marth if the former, Fox/Falcon if the latter. Doc might work as well but you'd have to make an adjustment in your overall playstyle.

Marth is just Roy with better moves in Melee. Try to play him.
Not quite. They changed Roy's moveset a decent amount in PM.

EDIT: Oh, never mind. I understand what you were saying now. Yes, Melee Marth and Melee Roy are pretty similar other than having to change the baser to the tipper.

Yeah i was gonna give Marth a shot and hell i can always actually main Roy in Melee. But i should keep him as a fun backup and try and learn a top character.

Yeah, Roy isn't that viable competitively, but he's a fun character to play as (I've gotten decent with him as my secondary).
