If the training mode help thing says that you've performed a combo, what exactly does that mean? Does that mean that the combo is guaranteed regardless of DI, or that your opponent was still in hitstun the next time that you hit them?

Also, how effective is it to go into training mode and see whether moves "combo" into each other? What does it help accomplish?

The second thing you said, it tells you if the opponent was stuck in hitstun for the entire sequence of attacks. It gets confused by mid-combo regrabs and the like because although they may be technically true combos, there's no hitstun while you are grabbing. I think teching/not teching may also screw with it.
Its a good way of seeing what moves may link and how much hitstun a certain move applies, but you'll still need to test them against real players who can tech/DI to be certain of what will work.
