I'm guessing it doesn't exist, any chance of someone making it? Is it possible? I want to do this because people don't really save replays, so I would have a lot of matches saved at tournaments and could put them on youtube, getting everything on stream then onto youtube is too much hassle.

EDIT (2): Not quite sure how I ended up in the Brawl Workshop board...my apologies for everything below not really applying to Brawl. I usually just stick to the PM boards, so I posted this under the impression that this was a suggestion in the PM gen discussion board. I'll keep this here in case anything still applies...otherwise this can be ignored.

EDIT: wow. Well, I just typed up some paragraphs on why this wouldn't work twice, but lost them once because my laggy internet showed that I had triple-posted, not double-posted (so when I edited my "third" post to apologize, I was in fact editing my first post and lost everything), and a second time because SmashBoards' daily maintanence that takes place at 1am PST (which prevented the edit with the re-typed paragraphs from going through and taking me to an error page). Really only typing this all over gain because I feel bad for double-posting and leaving without any contribution (that went through), so I'll apologize from now for any bluntness that may or may not follow...over an hour of rewriting the same darned post has me a bit ticked off at the moment aha. Disorganized bullets to follow - just putting down whatever I remember at this point in no particular order, but hopefully it should provide a decent enough bit of insight.

  • SD Cards are limited to 2gb to properly work with PM under normal circumstances, I forget why (the standard one is actually ~1.87gb or something; 2gb just sounds nicer so they market it as that). Due to it's low space for extra memory, users would have to frequently have to offload their recorded replays. People are lazy, and that'd be a pain even though it would only be an issue after weeks of gameplay. It would have to, at the very least, be a toggle-able option.
  • In order for this to become a regular thing at tournaments, TO's would have to put out standardized guidelines/rules concerning setups that few would likely be aware of; that means a lot of extra work on the part of TO's, those volunteering to bring setups, and the PMBR (who would probably end up being in charge of coming up with these "standardized" guidelines/rules, and then have to sell the idea to all of us).
  • These guidelines/rules would make setup volunteers put in considerable more effort than just having to unplug their Wiis and throw their TVs on the back seat. They'd likely end up being required to wipe their SD cards of any unnecessary data taking up space for the replays - including the skin/texture/music mods and builds that have seen increasing popularity in tournaments - and upload hours of replay footage to YouTube afterwards, one by one if they don't have the video editing experience to merge them. And then what? They'd have little to no way of identifying players, or which matches were pool/bracket or friendlies. Neither would the players, who would be just as unlikely to sift through hours and hours of footage from every single setup volunteer from the tournament (they don't know who's TV they played on for any given match) just to find their or their friends' 5-15min set.
  • All this extra work for little to no reward is likely to turn many setup volunteers off from bothering to bring their Wiis, TVs, etc...which is something TO's just can't afford. When there are less TVs, tournaments run that much more slowly. When tournaments run slowly, players get bored and start complaining, or worse, stop coming. TO's are always careful to consider the implications of introducing new things in order to keep their attendance/popularity success up, and I doubt many would be willing to risk something like this even if it were to be released in the next PM update for use outside of tournaments.
  • PMBR also have to follow this trail of thought when deciding what features they'd be willing to spend time putting into the next update - how popular would it be? Would it be more popular than the countless number of other features we're already working on, and thus get bumped up higher on our priority list of things to include? Unfortunately, it's just not feasibly realistic for anyone that would be involved and have to put in any degree of effort to make it work.
