The tournament will be hosted at Cyberwocky in Newport News, VA
Friday, November 13th, 2007, starting at 7:00pm
So the deal is, CNU ACM is hosting a smash tournament, and they're willing to trade letting me run it(my rules, my bracket) for me advertising it. Sorry about the short notice, but i'm not telling you much later than i found the particulars out myself.
About the venue: I've never been there myself. I've only looked in from the outside, and all i've seen are HDTVs -- its possible they have sdtvs as well, or that they will allow us to bring in tvs, but if not, then the tournament will be played on laggy tvs. you've been warned, I even put it in the topic title, so no johns. I'll do what I can to get lagless tvs in there, but I'm not really in a position of power. Cyberwocky is a small cybercafe/gaming place located in Kiln Creek, in Newport News, virginia. They challenged ACM to fill the place, so lets create a fire hazard!
The entry fee is $10, and as far as i've been told they're taking a 30% venue fee.
Rules-
& Tournament will be run through a double elimination bracket
& 4 stock matches, 8 minute time limit on each match
& Items are OFF
& all sets will be best of 3, except for winner's finals, loser's finals, and grand finals, which will be best of 5
& The first match of any set will be on a randomly selected stage from the following: Final Destination, Fountain of Dreams, Yoshi's Story, Battlefield, and Dreamland 64, unless both players agree to play on a stage. If you think your opponent is purposefully trying to counterpick your character, you can call for a double blind selection (only for the first match of a set), where both players will choose a character independent of the selection screen (generally by telling someone else), and pick at the same time.
& slob pick rules will be followed for this tournament, which basically means that after losing a match, you get to pick the stage for the next match. After you pick the stage, your opponent will choose their character, and then you can choose your character.
& Before a set, each player is allowed to ban one stage from play. This includes coming up on random, and counterpicking. All stages are available for banning. If a player banned stage comes up on random, the match is to be reset and repicked on random.
& once a stage has been selected by random, if unforeseen outside circumstances require the match be reset, the match will still be played on the first stage selected by random.
& the only stages unavailable for counterpicking on your slob pick are: Hyrule Temple, Fourside, Flatzone, Brinstar Depths, Icicle Mountain, Big Blue, Yoshi's Island 64, Onett, Termina Bay
& Stalling is NOT allowed. Camping is one thing (waiting for your opponent to come to you to
attack), but you are stalling if you are not attacking opponent AND avoiding them. This includes stalling with moves such as jigglypuff's rising pound, or the peach bomber. The interpretation is left open, and I hope it doesn't come up, but tournament hosts can be consulted whenever someone is perceived to be stalling. In short, fight your matches.
& Wobbling is BANNED. I don't care what you think. its stupid. End of discussion. Any extended wobbling(use your head, if its obvious its wobbling, its wobbling) will result in immediate loss of a match, and repeat offenses will result in disqualification from the tournament.
& Glitches that freeze the game or prevent an opponent's character from moving are banned. Again, I don't want to have to deal with this, but I will if necessary.
& Rules aren't limited to those listed here. I don't have any plan to abuse this, but basically if you're one of those jerks who mentally goes through normal rule lists, and realizes i left something blatantly broken out and tries to abuse it, this rule is for you: I'm watching, and I hate you.
