So, I have the 3ds and it's Smash version for quite a long time, but still, it's kinda hard to play using the circle pad (specialy when you're thumbs are sweaty). However, i've foud out that there is a cover for the circle pad. And it comes in packages with six of them, One of them is similar to the gamecube stick:

And now I ask you guys, is this worth the budget or not, will playing 3ds smash be better with this accessory

Up to you man. If you really like how the GameCube controller feels, I say go for it as long as they aren't TOO expensive. (I'd assume getting 1 of them would cost $3-5) If I were to get one, I would get the fourth one (bottom left) as I find the control stick used in the Pro Controller to be the most comfortable.

Also, how would you put them on? Won't they overlap and prevent you from actually closing the 3ds? Or do you actually replace the circle pad with the cover?

They come with a keychain where you can keep the cover and it's attachable to the 3ds.You don't have to replace the circle pad. Just cover the pad with one of them
And they cost 6.10$ on amazon

One of my buddies had these on his WiiU Gamepad. It was so bad I had to take them off.

...Hmmm. I'm tempted by these. I was looking at some reviews on Amazon, and they're kind of iffy. But, I dislike using the circle pad, so I might just have to gamble and get them in hopes of having a better grip. If I do buy them, and this thread isn't too far gone by then, I'll post my thoughts on them.

I have these and find them very usefull but only the middle on of the bottom row is very good. I ordered them from ebay.

personally i think the circle pad works really well, i've even begun to prefer it over gamecube controllers. it's much more sensitive and easier to pull off tilts. that's probably because i used to play on a crappy 3rd party controller though :p

That's great. I see my guess was correct. Enjoy it while you can. :)

I bought these exact ones and ill just share my experience of them. Half of them kill your thumb with friction getting them to stay on is tricky. I found that they slipped off mid match completely screwing me over. What i will recommend for you is a grip that i found for the 3ds xl. Gives the system a real console controller quality feel. It requires you to sort of get used to a new way of holding it but i didn't have to much trouble with it after a couple of hours. I cant post a link for you but its the" CYBER grip rubbing coating (for 3DS LL)" and its about $9.00 on amazon.

I ended up getting these pad covers the day I found my old one. Now I just need to decide if I should super glue the standard circle pad cover or the gamecube like pad.

Funny I went to Wal-mart the other day looking for a circle-pad cover for my 3DS, and couldn't find any.

Odds are I might have to use Amazon again, (it'll be cheaper than the Syndrome figurine which was the 1st thing I got off that site.)
