Most of us have picked our mains by now, and I thought I had mine picked, Captain Falcon. But recently, I've been questioning my (rather manly) choice.
After a bit of thought, I decided one should pick his/her main based on their favorite character. Although aesthetics are cool and all, I think actually enjoying the franchise trumps all other categories for choosing a main. Some people go by playstyle, tier placement, and looks, but I think all those just become acquired tastes after a while. This is where I began to realize my faulty choice with Captain Falcon.
Granted, I loved F-Zero, don't get me wrong, but it by no means is my favorite franchise of Brawl characters. I've come to realize that I seemed to have chose Falcon because I essentially wanted to be recognized in some way, and using the 'worst' character in the game seemed the quickest way to do it. Believe me, I now see the error in my ways. I was essentially being a tier w**** (pardon the language, but its the official term nowadays) in my search for Brawl glory. I mean, let's face it, how many good Falcon mains are there? Not a lot, I can tell ya, and I don't think it would be that hard becoming one of the Falcon greats simply because not a lot of people play him.
But choosing my main this way is so shallow, and I know it now more than ever. In my opinion, you should choose your main by who is your favorite character, and then pick secondaries to cover it's weaknesses. Now, if I truly was a diehard F-Zero fan, I wouldn't be typing this blog. The truth is, I'm a Pokemon afficionado, and I've stuck with the series in and out. My fave out of the playable Pokes is Lucario, and as of lately, I'm truly considering switching to Lucario.
I do like Captain Falcon, don't get me wrong, but I feel I'm playing him for all the wrong reasons. Being an attention seeker is messed up and stupid, and I only realized that now, after a month or so of Falcon maining. However, I'm ready to start anew my life of Brawl, the right way. I actually started with Lucario in the beginning of Brawl, but I bounced mains more than a Kangaroo on drugs.
I hope this becomes a new chapter for me in Brawl, and hopefully I can find sanctum in my new main. I'm actally enticed to a few characters, ie Bowser, D3, but deep down, I know I liked Pokemon better than Mario or Kirby. I've planned out my secondaries for my bad matchups, and they will be D3 and Olimar (Kirby and Pikmin were pretty cool, so I'm not too disappointed.)
The new challenge will be becoming one of the great Lucarios. There is much more competition now than there was when I played Falcon, but as Lucario puts it, "I'll show you the power of Aura!"
And with that, I thank you for reading my long wall of text. Until next time, adieu.
