The Mercenary
Note: I don't see the Competitive Discussion forum anywhere, so if this is the wrong place, please let me know or move the thread to the proper area. Thank you!
I was playing MCPE (a Diddy main) and I notice that he does a few things I don't see out of most players. Even against really good ones, they seem to lack perfectly chasing down an opponent who's landing vertically on-stage. He was able to surprise Uair, chase-grab, or chase-USmash me before I had a chance to land properly. I main Ike, so my options are limited, primarily using Nair. Even with fast-fall, he could run me down unless I used the ledge.
On the ledge, he punished me almost every time I tried to get back on. He knew exactly how to read whether I rolled back on, jumped back on, attacked back on, or simply hit right/left to come back on. In the case of the last example, it was usually answered with a grab. Sometimes he'd DSmash me to get both angles, or he would read my jumps and either aerial me or do the chase-down grabs before I could land. And keep in mind, it was hard to stay grounded even when I used other characters.
Another thing I'm really trying to work on now is not wasting moves. He was really good at perfectly spacing his moves, knowing the frames and hitboxes, and I feel like I was swinging randomly in the air. I did a lot of that mainly to keep my zoning and discourage him from approaching. Instead he did the opposite and just kept coming at me, knowing exactly when/where to punish.
I'll have some videos for you guys to watch later to see what I'm talking about. But in the meantime, how do you deal with constant pressure while trying to recover if you can shake the monkey off your back?
