How would you guys feel about if in 1-Player mode (Adventure Mode, most likely) the chars.
had converstations, be it text with random gibberish talking (think Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, OoT, or Prof. E. Gadd & Midna's speech) or real voice chat, so that we can see how the
chars. interact?

no... that would just ruin the current Adventure...

Depending on how they change the 1P modes, like if it is just as frantic or more slow paced, so I really can't say :p

Ending your game.
We can't really theorize such things until we have a more solid view of what Adventure and everything else will be like. I like those games you mentioned, but it doesn't feel like the voice chatting/gibberish speech between characters is really nessesary. Many of the them don't even speak full sentences... We'll be lucky if they talk outside of their victory pose screen.

I've always did wanna see Snake give Mario a high-five.
I'd say if the new Robust Story mode is gonna act all Kingdom hearts like than I say yeah.

Link probaly won't talk and will have the other characters who are talking to him act like he is talking to them.
Also I heard Kirby say "OH NO" in the first Trailer when The Nintendog appear.
Plus Snake talked in the First Trailer.

All the story mode NEEDS is a final battle for every character plus master hand, but if they have time, I wouldn't mind a simple story and some interaction.

eh I don't think they need to talk, maybe show a little gesture like when Mario meets Bowser at the end of alleged new story he's like "wuh-oh" or something... but no dialogue. it would kinda take away something I think.

How would it be taken away?
Snake talked in the First Trailer without any problems and it worked fine.

I'm sure talking in a Smash game is not gonna ruin the game.

I don't think talking is neccessary, but body language/gesture are good enough. Univerisal language.

It sounds like a good idea, but what about Marth and Roy? They talk in japanese, and if they do return, they would need to either A) makes them talk in english, or B) provide subtitles. And the thought of Link talking, well, it scares me a bit.. lol. But he did talk in the LoZ show that is, mind you, extremely old, and extremely strange. But it does sound like a good idea. I would like that.

Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess! ;) I couldn't resist.

Shigeru Miyamoto: This is actually something Mr Sakurai and I have had a difference of opinion on since the very first Smash Bros. game. Mr Sakurai always wanted to have a very deep single-player game, and on the N64 version I just said to him, you know, we've got plenty of very deep single-player games, why don't you hurry up and just focus on multiplayer and don't worry about the single-player. And Mr Sakurai said no, no, no, I want to have some kind of single-player in there so I just said well, make it really short so we can focus on multiplayer and get the game done. And we kind of did a little bit of that on the GameCube, but a bit more single-player than that. This time we're getting a lot of time to focus on Smash Bros., plenty of time to develop it, so people can expect a very robust single-player game.

Seems like Sakurai has been auhking to make a good story mode but had to down play it because the head man wanted him to focus on the fighting part more. Now they have given him the go ahead and seem to back him out on this so I can see story mode acting like the first trailer (Cinama and a lot of interaction between characters with some of them actually talking like Snake did.)

I don't think so. The beauty of smash is not the story, but the gameplay.

I think when all the characters are finished, and it's WELL balanced, good attacks, good online, and all good, the can start with a deep single player mode.

Melee only with his 1º player mode, it was around 200 hours for me when i finished almost all, and dont go deep in the rest (have a well control in one character, and know the rest of characters... these sorta things)

But is good, a deep single player will be a smash with infinite diversion, no only in company, also with you alone will be infinitely...

IDK whats up with some of you. The creator of this game has ALWAYS wanted a deep story mode for Smash and now they are allowing him to do this (as my post stated) so he is going to make one.

There will be a "robust" story mode. . . IDK how it will work but it will be "robust" and I hope Sakurai goes all out with it.

well i don't know about you guys but if the man who brought us the (in my opinion) the greatest game of all time decided he wants to make a "robust" story mode then i say "all freakin right!"

as long as multiplayer remains awesome how could it hurt to make single player better?

........just please don't have link talk...plus mario and luigi should only say a few "reaction" words (like uh-huh, okey dokey, ohh-no, here we go, etc.)

How awesome, even Sakurai himself wanted this!

wow, some of you are really against a story mode? I highly doubt they would touch the multiplayer, so a good single player couldnt hurt. Also, I was thinking that people who dont talk such as Link, the Pokemon, possibly DK and Kirby (cant remember if they talk in their games or not) could just react w/ emotions and such (Like if Link sees Zelda he gets happy and runs up to her, if he sees Ganon he gets upset and takes out his sword) that way we wont have a repeat of the CD-1 games or the cartoon

I think the single player mode was fantastic in Melee, and "more of the same" would be awesome. I don't want an elaborite story mode. Who acualy plays the story mode after having unlocked everything? All that valuable energy spent in the part of the game players play least.

Guys, this game will be ONLINE. Most of the community will be busy with that. If I were someone at Nintendo, I would make sure the online works smoothly enough to be playable before devoting resources to fancy single player goodies.

EDIT: Though if Sakurai does have the time to make this game good, then I'm not against a crazy single player story, really. I'd love it. The only thing is that I don't want to get Brawl only to see that the single player is long and complex, while the lag online is horribly unplayable :(

My opinion:
(1) Speaking = no thanks
(2) Change in body language = sure, why not? Rivals should give each other the cold shoulder
(3) If Sakurai wants to make it more robust, I yell PIYAAH! SSB and SSBM had great 1P modes, so I trust his judgment.
If I can enjoy the game, then the creators have succeeded. So far, they're doing pretty well.

Im Ok with talking seeing as, ya know, Snake actually talks in the trailer. But Sakurai wants to stay true to the characters character in their own game so he wont make the ones like Link talk. But for those who do talk I expect them to have something to say (Im lookn at you Fox, MK. . . and maybe Pitt and Zero (>_<).)

I'd like to hear the pokeman's (besides mew2's) conversation. Of course the chit-chats between pika and jiggz will be most exiting and informative.

I think single player aspects overall should be a low priority compared to the actual gameplay online and the such.

I think that if character interactions were implimented, they should be just like they were in each character's game. So, Link wouldn't talk at all, but characters would somehow know exactly what he would say. Mario would mostly use body language with the addition of random catch phrases (Let'sa go!). Pokemon would just use expressions and tones, I guess... so on, so forth. I think it could add a lot of depth if they stay true to the characters.

u know wat would be cool. Being able to tweak ur characters looks a little. Not to the point where they'r unrecognizable, just a little.

...Why woould you want todo that/ These guys spend thousands (or so i'm guessing)toprovide you with the looks they're given.

Besides, which character do you mean to "tweak" and how would you"tweak" them?

They could not just have alternate colors, but different costumes.

Link- farm boy, Zoran armor...etc

Mario- racoon, frog....

Zelda- twilight robe...

Bowser- skeloten form

Those are the only ones i could come up with on the spot. It is just a rough idea that i through out there.

I think it would be good if the characters reacted to one another

Link and Mario, the ultimate heroes do a dramatic staredown or something..
Meta Knight throws Kirby and Kirby swallows it making MK gasp.

Pit probably wont be too happy when he sees an evil character..

As for a "robust" single player, I would enjoy that alot so long as the game doesn't play better in single than in multi.

Not only Raccoon and Frog, byt Dr. Mario would be a nice alternate costume.
