I don't mean to start anything, but with so many characters that can produce items(Peach,DDD,Olimar,Diddy Kong) do you think items may be allowed later in this game's lifespan?(though I do realise it's too early to tell.:))

You can't ban a character by the way. And for your information Dedede and Olimar throw MINIONS not items. They can't be picked up. Also, Olimar has a minion/Ice Climber-esque thing going on. He can control pikmin to an extent, but they also have their own moves and he uses them for attack as well. Very controversial, but pikmin are essential to Olimar's moves and without them he's stuck. So the answer is no, they don't have a special random factor they are being controlled and are avoidable. They don't add any sort of luck to gameplay either.

Items aren't turned off simply for the sake of being turned off. They were mainly turned off because of exploding containers.

A Japanese site thinks that Sukapon could end up as an item...

and I mean item...It specifically said NOT AT...

...

That is, if he's not playable...

I thought this thread would be about each character getting an item related to them. Though I always turn items off, but its not like the characters who are able to, can pull out any item.. its specific..

and irrelevant but---

xbrinkx- that quote in your sig is hilarious.. I laughed haha

Thanks, you can copy it if you want. I get that a lot, it was one of those happy instances where someone said something completely hilarious.

Anyways, back on topic. What I'm saying is, if the item/minion the character pulls out has nothing to do with luck than the competitive scene may do something about it. But seriously, one move isn't going to completely ban a character.

This man has the right idea. Character items are not random and aren't nearly strong enough to warrant banning a character.

Peach pulling beamswords is crazy though!

I hope they don't ban final smashes.. It seemed to work pretty well 1 v 1 in the videos.

Thanks, I'm trying to look deep into the competitive view and find out reasons behind things and when I heard about items and stages then my eyes opened. Besides, I don't even think it's safe to say that you could even ban a character at all. If that were to happen then the competitive scene would be stereotyped to no end. That's what tier lists are for and I don't follow it.

If the rate for pulling out beam swords was like 20% or something, then that'd be a problem. But it's so rare that it's negligible.

Also, Final Smashes are too unbalanced not to be banned. Some make you invincible and allow for instant kills for little effort, and others are straight crap. Even if FS's got their own format (unlikely), people would just pick the characters with the best FS or the ones who are best at snatching Smash balls.

Yes, but you forget that final smashes were put in the game for balance in the first place. That's why they aren't grabbed, they're jabbed. You have to beat it down to release it's smashy goodness, making it more balanced in battling for the smash ball. So you just contradicted yourself in saying the "the best at snaching smash balls". And FSes are aren't necessarily a luck item. While it's true that some can be better than others, it all depends on how good/bad the character is with their regular playstyle. Why do you think Bowser has Giga Bowser for his FS? These are put into thought a lot. Dang I wish I could go to the back room, I feel like I'm thinking more on a logically better scale since I've thought so much about the competitive scene.

Final Smashes are not balanced, nor do they properly balance the characters, that is just silly. Characters will NOT all be balanced either way, no matter what. Adding final smashes to the mix is just gonna cause more controversy and change which characters are better, not even the playing field.

No. You're beyond wrong. That couldnt be farther from the truth...

Smash Balls dont pop up all over the place in a match, even at high their spawn rates would be relatively low, judging from footage we've seen so far.

And say someone is a complete ****er, and chooses a character just because of their FS...what are they meant to do till a Smash Ball spawns? they wouldnt survive to see a smash ball, unless it's a character that they use in the game consistently/the character is their main.

And remember we're talking about the competitive scene. AS IF anyone would choose a character just for the FS. There is REAL money on the line, it would be too much of a gamble.

Items may not be banned if it's revealed we can turn off exploding capsules/crates/barrels.

Although, Final Smashes might be banned, if solely for Bowser's FS (Giga Bowser is broken, no way around it. The only way to get around it is to die and stay in the recovery platform as long as possible.).

Actually, Bowser's Giga transformation is a better point actually to bring it in. The lower characters are given better Final Smashes. Fight for FS!

I don't think FS should be banned at all. I mean why would it? Cause most of them are instant Stock Downs? That is what they are for! I mean, they aren't even an item if you think about it. Smash Balls are just a means to use a move. A MOVE. banning final smashes would be just as bad as banning a character since they are integral parts of a characters move list.

and if you argue that some characters have crappy FS's then it is the same thing as saying they have a crappy move. Just make sure you get the SB first.
