Changes to Stage Expansion Pack

The 5.4 stage expansion pack is amazing, it is incredibly useful and looks reasonably professional. However, the biggest problem is the common5 filesize limit which results in a low res preview. I think this could be remedied slightly by removing unused stage slots, leaving room for better previews.

Is there a way to modify the code, reducing it to a 20 stage expansion? This probably isn't widely known but if anyone knows how, or knows someone who can make this change then I would be grateful for the help.

Bump.

If anyone's interested, this is what I had in mind. What do you guys think?

yeah personally I've always wanted a smaller expansion pack. I have no idea how to accomplish this though. I suggest heading over to the kc:mm boards.

This would be a 3-step process: changing the Custom SSS code to have less stages, making sure the layout (for that number of stages) looks OK, and then replacing all the portraits you're not going to use with 4x4 black or something small like that. I might make something like this if I have time this week.

What ernie had said! Lol

There are also other things that can be downsized or removed to allow for more higher quality previews as well. Messing with formats and removing some things by replacing them as libertyernie said with a 4x4 black square can add quite a bit of room.

Thanks guys.

I've actually made a recent discovery, by shrinking the previews and running them through this, you can typically reduce png's by about 70% with no visible difference. Also something to consider, the absence of the surrounding portraits could allow the preview box to return to it's original size (with some shifting of the player css).

I was actually trying to figure out how to resize the preview background myself. If I'd been able to I was gonna go ahead and move the player stock icons and timer/stock thingy a bit more to do so actually. I just haven't figured out how to resize it. Libertyernie may know how to do that though.

Edit: I also like that little tool you posted. Might try that out and see if it helps to improve the quality of the previews.

Question. I'm sorry if it's too much of an ask but how about making this instead? It would literally be the original layout with a 12 stage expansion, though it looks a lot cleaner IMO. Again sorry for the multiple requests.
