Central VA- Help me organize a tourney!

Hey all!
So recently I've been talking about organizing tournaments to try and make central VA a more of a tourney region for Smash Bros. After gauging community interest via a smash fest and a mini-tourney, I'm extremely confident this goal can be accomplished.

What I'm working on now is creating a process to secure a venue in the area (suggestion welcome), get the word out to locals and OOS players, accumulate an acceptable number of setups (may need help with this), cover the venue fee without too much financial burden on myself ($400, my phone, and other things were stolen from me recently, so my financial situation is a bit more sensitive).
The main thing I'll need help with is creating a standard schedule for singles and doubles of each game, setting up a balanced bracket, and making sure things run smoothly the day of.
As of now I don't have a date for the tourney, but I will be contacting potential venue locations such as The End Game Center or Zeus Digital Theater in Waynesboro (They have an extremely nice venue set up, designed specifically for a tourney as such).

If anyone has any questions, suggestions, or would like to help, please let me know! ^_^
Thanks,
Ammad

Talk to this guy. He use to go to college in that area. He's a pretty good TO

I think your event should run both Brawl and Melee. Would help to cover venue cost if you can get 2x the entrants. Then if you can get enough people showing up, you can offer free venue fee to those who bring setups

Oh, you are running both games. That's nice

Setting up a schedule is easy. It's like, not even a problem. Unless you've got players entering for both Brawl and Melee 2v2. Then that creates chains of players waiting on players. As for making a balanced bracket, you could simply just ask a few good players for their input on how to seed everyone

Also, make sure the entry fee is $10, rather than $5. CENVA is a little bit far away from the more active part of VA (NOVA), so having a bigger pot would encourage better players to show up. And everyone loves the better players

But I'm not really a good TO. This is just advice from the few tournaments I've been running

Hey EPsilon,
Thanks for taking the time to respond and refer me to TheCrimsonBlur. I sent a message out to him and hopefully he'll respond soon =D Also I definitely appreciate the general advice. They all seem like great suggestions and I'll likely put them to use <3
