Catching with Ice climbers?

Do the ice climbers get 2 chances to catch something? Peach was constantly throwing turnips and I tried catching one and ended up catching another as soon as I was going to use the 1st one to block it. I don't know if that was luck, glitch, possible or what?

They can each catch/hold/pickup an item, if that's what you mean.

is kinda confusing... were you using the 'a' button to try for a plain throw? If so, maybe the game checks for catching stuff before throwing anything.
