In both Melee and PM, I main Captain Falcon. I have no trouble with really any advanced techniques...except moonwalking. I've read tons of text-tutorials and watched all the video tutorials I could find, but something about it still doesn't make sense to me. I can sort of moonwalk back to the ledge in PM, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it more than once..or at all in Melee. Does anyone have a good video reference, or at least a more detailed explanation? Thanks!

Well, the object of the motion is not to put the stick in neutral, and to go past it to the opposite side. If you dash right, you kind of want to make a Nike Swoosh under the area. On the notches, if I went by clock, the easiest one to hit would be from 3 o'clock to 7-8 o'clock (I don't have a controller in front of me right now.

To moonwalk to right: Face to right (if you don't already, dash or walk to right first) Then input 1. :GCL: - > 2. :GCDR: rolling into 3.:GCR:. Concentrate on getting the transition from 1 to 2 as fast as you can. Try to make the motion as relaxed and natural as possible. Practice hitting the diagonal notch or little below it, it's also good to be able to hit it for combo di. Don't move the stick all the way to left at first, start accelerating your stick to 2. even before you hit the left notch, because that makes it easier to hit the downright notch on frame 3. (Turn/dash start before you hit the full left, about when you've covered 3/4 of the distance to full left.)

No offense, but it's a little outdated. The straight green line is the right idea, and the guide is overall pretty good for it's time. However the angle it shows is wrong; it would cause turn, optimal angle angle is to the opposite diagonal notch (on most controllers). Here is the input output diagram by @Kadano :

Here is the picture in the thread you pointed out:

Avoiding the turn has little to do with the "neutral position" or the dead zone in the Kadano's picture. Turn is triggered if you make a fast and long enough input to the dark blue area. Thus to moonwalk your idea is to move as much to the left without triggering turn, which happens to be just about in the notch area on most controllers, and after that to move to full input so that when you enter the smash turn zone, you're no longer inputting smash turn because you do such a small input from the diagonal to it. This requires your stick to be in the notch area for 2 frames, but that comes naturally, it's pretty much impossible to go to fast if you use straight line. In the picture you made the green line is a too straight I think and goes to the smash turn area if performed like you indicate.
