A while back, Capcom started a sort of idea contest, for people to post/brainstorm ideas for the next Capcom vs. game. They take ideas, and the winner gets a bundle of Capcom merchandise, but only if you're signed up to their site and have certain information available (like shipping addresses). It's still running if you're interested, though over a thousand ideas is a lot for them to sift through, and so many ideas that the unclaimed ones will be few and large in between.
There were a lot of ideas, and I gave a couple myself... in any case, I suppose this thread is to talk about ideas for the next vs. game, since Capcom, or at least the people who mod the site, are thinking about it as well.
If that's ok, I'm going to break down some of the more interesting ideas I saw. Getting the obvious out of the way...
Marvel vs Capcom 3:
Nuff said.
Marvel vs DC
Again, no comment necessary. Also something that needs to happen eventually, if only to see Batman face off against Akuma.
Capcom vs Midway
Besides the obvious and long overdue Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat angle, don't forget all the arcade games and such that Midway published back in the day. Rampage, Joust...
Plus, they have Primal Rage and Killer Instinct, both of which weren't all that great but deserve another try anyway, especially if that new interpretation is by Capcom.
Marvel vs Shonen Jump
Not happening thanks to copyrights being all over the place, and it would pretty much have to be Capcom vs [insert specific series]]. That's a shame, because this would be a must buy for me.
Besides the obvious Hadouken vs Kamehameha angle, you've got possibly characters from every single series Shonen Jump has ever published. Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto (as much as I despise it), Bleach, etc, etc...
If they do it, and, as long as Cell (or, alternatively, Kurama) is in it, I'd buy it. I'd probably buy it even if Cell wasn't in it, actually.
Capcom vs Sega
Now, before you say "WHAT? RYU VS SONIC, ARE YOU STUPID?!?!?" think about it. There are a lot of characters from Sega games that would fit and deserve some love. Sonic characters would of course be a must, but that's not necessarily a bad thing: Sonic in any fighting game made by Capcom would probably be great, so I'm not complaining.
On the "less well known" tract, you've got characters from Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers, Comix Zone (the protagonist from fighting zone would look amazing in a 2D fighter), Vectorman, Altered Beast, Golden Axe... probably even a more realistically rendered Kid Chameleon and Alex Kidd... the list goes on and on.
Also, Jill Valentine vs G. Gotta happen sometime.
Personally, I think the best matchup to advertise this with would be Megaman vs Sonic, which would look a lot less awkward... far from it, actually.
Capcom vs Nintendo
Again, think about it before you give judgement. In particular, remember that Smash would in no way be indicative of every involvement of Nintendo characters in a fighting game.
Think about Punch Out! I mean, who wouldn't want to see Balrog take on Mr. Sandman, or Fei Long face off against Dragon Chan? The Bull Rush in a fighting game would probably look great.
But, in any case, pretty much every series has characters that would fit, as long as Capcom designed them well in the game.
