Can't use custom images for Stage Select screen?

Yea when I try to use more than 1 custom image for the stage select screen I get a freeze, and even when I use just 1 the system takes a while to load the screen.

But why? I extract the image that's normally there from the sel_map.pac in common_5 and just paste another image over that and save it.

My guess is that it's too much data, but how if the image is the exact same size as the original?

So how would I shrink the data size for these images because I find it incredibly ridiculous that I can only get 1 custom image to work when other people can have them for a whole slew of stages.

Am I doing something wrong here, that is the procedure to replace images with custom ones right?

For reference I use Riivolution.

And one other thing is on some music files I can't replace those either, like subspace music, I can't replace any of them.

Anyone else have this problem?

Really? I know there's people out there that know this kind of stuff, why is everyone so unwilling to help?

Indeed, I read that but what does it mean to index a picture? I use Paint.NET and I don't see such a feature, I haven't seen it in photoshop either, do you do that in Brawlbox? Does it lower data size for images?

Thanks for the reply btw.

And I'm using a custom SSS, ASF1NK's swirling blue one, but I've seen people post videos on youtube using that with all custom stage pictures -_-

I think BrawlBox might index the images automatically. Otherwise, you can do it with GIMP.
What does indexing do exactly, like I don't see an option for it, is it something you use to edit the image or do you save it as a certain format with indexing or something?

Nevermind I figured out the indexing, but dear lord you only have 0.02 MB of space for images, anything over 1.14 MB freezes and you start off with 1.12 MB for sc_selmap.pac, and just adding 5 images with 256 colors puts it up to 1.15 MB.

And even decreasing the color count down to 60 it doesn't affect the file size of the image at all really. Is there any way to get past this?

I make mine 32 colors.
I mean, you don't need full image quality for thumbnails :p

Thanks, but I found another way, I just "deleted" the logo images that show up at the corners of the stage portraits like the mario sunshine logo on the delfino plaza stage, and surprisingly by replacing all those with completely transparent images of the same size it reduced the file size by about .04MB, that's more than what I needed

In short, problem solved, thanks to everyone for the help, this can be locked
