Sakurai has stated that playing brawl with people outside your friend list will prevent you from using your taunts (which would've been the means in which these players could communicate)
I challenge you to invent an alternate means of communication to get around this barrier!
*edit #3* -- On the update where Smash goes Wi-Fi Sakurai says:
"The more distant you are, the worse your connection becomes, and the slower it feels. I apologize, but I hope you understand."
--My interpretation of this is quite simple. I believe this means that in the Wi-Fi mode you will be able to set a maximum distance for your matches. From here most people will quickly realize the benefit of playing people shorter distances away from you (less lag.) How does this relate to my thread? --Well I'll tell you!
--Say you live in a kind of small area, like me, I live in Vermont. I'm guessing there will be about 500-700 brawlers within my immediate county. If I'm going to be playing brawl on-line a lot with random people from my area, there is of course the chance that I will most likely see the same person twice. I will know because I will recognize their fighting style and be like, 'oh this guy, i own him' or 'o snap this guy iz teh shizz!' I mean, when you've got 40-50characters with 4-6 alt costumes each, it'll be pretty simple to tell if it's the same person or not. Anyway, the point of this edit is to just show y'all that pending on where you live (esp. if it's somewhere less populated than where I live) you will most likely recognize the same brawlers over n over in anonymous on-line play.
So, I predict that there will most likely be a need for an online brawl code language.
The point of this thread is not to speculate on how this idea would work like, right away at the start of brawl or something. The point is to further discuss and creatively revise / simplify this code and create a means of alternate communication with those who would otherwise remain anonymous.
*edit* say if you're having a fun battle with someone and you really want to find out who they are. Using a universal code language you could ask for their wii #, their aim s/n, or the name they go by (on forums/online) or w.e so that then you can find them to play again later.
Also, this would be a good way for pros to get their name around n shtuff :-)
The easiest way I see doing this would be assigning a letter to each of the following:
basic attack, tilts, speciels, & aerials
1+3+4+5 = 13
When facing toward the opponent:
A --> Basic attack
B --> D-tilt
C --> F-tilt
D --> U-tilt
E --> B-Neutral
F --> Down-B
G --> Forward-B
H --> Up-B
I --> N-Air
J --> D-Air
K --> F-Air
L --> U-Air
M --> B-Air
When facing away from the opponent.
N --> Basic attack
O --> D-tilt
P --> F-tilt
Q --> U-tilt
R --> B-Neutral
S --> Down-B
T --> Forward-B
U --> Up-B
V --> N-Air
W --> D-Air
X --> F-Air
Y --> U-Air
Z --> B-Air
For numbers dash-dance briefly to imply you are about to communicate a number-
When facing opponent:
1 - N-Air
2 - D-Air
3 - F-Air
4 - U-Air
5 - B-Air
6 - Neutral-B
7 - Down-B
8 - Forward-B
9 - Up-B
0 - Basic Attack
We could further expand upon this code language by creating questions for certain other moves:
Taunt --> A/S/L?
Crouch --> Where are you from?
Double Jump --> What's your aim sn?
Just an idea.
This is a very rough draft of a possible code system that could be used in on-line brawl play.
Plz Discuss :D
