can someone help me with texture modding?

I've been getting into smash lately, project m to be exact, and I've really wanted to mod my game. So i downloaded brawlbox and a melee mario mod and tried everything that i could, but i couldnt get the mod to work properly. can anyone help me?

I'm just trying to change mario's first color to a mario melee mod. I'm already aware that I have to change the file to to FitMario00.pcs, but it still is not working.

This is what I've done. I downloaded a Melee Mario texture mod. It already came with FitMario00-06. All i wanted was the original red mario. his color is FitMario00.pcs, so i went into {projectm>pf>fighter>mario} and dropped the original mario file in there, alread named correctly. But, it was odd that there were no FitMario00-06 in the mario folder, just FitMario06-11, and those were the doctor mario costumes. So all I did was drop the file in there and hoped for the best, but no luck.

You have to have it as a .pac and a .pcs, so that might be one of the issues.

But the texture mod did not come with any .pac files, just pcs. files

Im trying to change my character CSP's. I'm already aware that I have to open

{common5.pac > sc_selcharacter_en > char_bust_tex_lz77 > MiscData[0] (because I'm changing mario's first color) > Textures(NW4R) > MenSelcharFaceB.000 > right-click > replace photo with appropriate picture > save}

But it still isn't working.

"isn't working" gives me nothing to work with.
You don't take your car to the mechanic and say 'it isn't working'.

What happens?

guessing you meant MenSelcharFaceB.001 not 000?

are you sure the 'appropriate picture' is infact appropriate?

The picture that i'm switching is the original Melee Mario CSP. I put it into MenSelcharFaceB.000 because there is no 001 option. .000 was the brawl original CSP and switched it to the Melee CSP, but it didn't work.

is the portrait the right size?
what format?
and why dont you have 001?

When I start the game, none of the Mario CSP's have changed. Format CMPR, size: 128 x 160. IDK why I don't have .000

have you changed anything else?

post a picture of your common5.pac > sc_selcharacter_en > char_bust_tex_lz77 > MiscData[0] (because I'm changing mario's first color) > Textures(NW4R)

you seem to be missing 001 and 004 =/

what PM build are you using, and have you altered anything else?

ive asked all of those questions in order to help you. i can't help if you don't provide details.

by which build, i also mean homebrew/hackless/fullset/wifi etc.

I'm using the homebrew method and the Project m launcher. The launcher's version is 1.04
