Oh now i know. Reverse short hop laser. Just tilt the control stick the opposet way before u jump. That works for me.

"To do this you just short hop like normal, then tap the opposite way you're jumping in the air, then B and then fast fall it. Common problems with this is to phantom across the stage or off the ledge at first."-Teflon Climber's SHL Guide (linked on one of the STICKIES!!!!)

You tilt the control stick AFTER you jump, but before you press B. If you do tilt the control stick before you jump, then you wil turn on the ground, which is much, much slower than turning in the air.

Mofo does the RSHL incredibly quickly (I think its during the beginning).

hold the direction you want to move, sh, wait a bit (so you start moving), jam the direction you want to fire the laser in (slide your finger off the control stick if you want), once the stick is centered, press b, press down on the control stick as quickly as you can after pressing b.

Nah, that video is wrong.

You can rshl that way but its a lot slower than turning in air, as burningherbs mentioned. You turn in the air after you jump by hitting back->laser... This actually works with every characters neutral b move (as in you tap back, let go, hit b), though rshl is probably better than any other reversed b move (except falcon punch for mindgames :D).

<edit> Oh and to answer the original question... Nope, just practice. If you illusion then that means that at the point you hit 'B', you're still holding a direction. Thus, since you know the problem, work on letting go to the neutral position before hitting 'B' to laser.

Also, if you're illusioning in the original direction (as in you're not turning around), then that might be a controller thing... newer controllers might be a bit touchy... you'll have to make to bring the control stick back to neutral position manually instead of just flicking and letting it reset itself.

Best advice anyone could give in this thread. Take it and be thankful.

Yeah, just tap it lightly before you do the laser.
If you watch the Jem vs Eggz matches, I'm pretty sure Eggz and I do it frequently in every one of our matches.
But, all you can do is practice it. Go to practice mode, FD, and use this advice you've been given until you find a way that works for you. For some people it's different like for me, because I jump with the control stick. Still goes fine though.

It might actually be your controller (it was for me). If that's not it just make sure you tap the reverse direction right after you jump and then fire the laser.

BHLMRO: That was a very informatitive video. A LOT more detailed and better than explaining things then most guides and posts.

But to supplement its pretty much as the video says, but to bring it to a higher degree you dont' necessary have to turn around before lasering. Just jump in the current direction and then press the opposite then B then down.
