Can someone help me use a usb adapter??

I am sure this is a dumb question but I have tried searching google/asking people on kaillera without any help... so anyways I bought a usb adapter and had it calibrated and keys set and everything, when I went online and tried joining a game none of the buttons on the controller worked for me. When I created a game none of the controls worked for the other people... I don't know what I'm doing wrong, right now I just have the player 1 controller "plugged in". If someone could help me with this I'd really appreciate it. Mostly I want to know how I can get it to work joining someone elses game.

You need to untick "Raw data" or "Memory Pak" in the input plugin config.
