can japanese wiis connect to the internet in america?

Hi I just bought a Japaneses wii from play-asia and I cant get it to connect to internet. Well I got it to connect for system updates but it wont let me check news or download new virtual console games... anyone having the same problem? I am getting some error message with these numbers in it 109139

Yes, I believe it was stated on the Dojo that Japanese players can play with American players.

As for the internet in general. No, I don't think you can get American content (American version of Votes channel, shopping channel, etc.) without an American Wii.

You SHOULD, however, be able to connect to the Japanese servers if you have a Japanese Wii within America.

About your problem, you should check Nintendo's website and see if they have a page about errors on Wi-Fi, if not, email Nintendo and mention the problem and give them the error code.

EDIT: I guess it is bad, mine was censored too.

I believe you can as the internet isn't picky about regions. Kinda like Japanese DSes some people have here.

My Normal Wii has problems with the shop channel all the time. Thats probably the case here.

I have a Japanese Wii and I've downloaded many VC games. So the shop channel is probably just not working now... Its done that to me before.
