Can I use a image I didn't make as my avatar?

I found this cool fan made DHD sprite and I wanted to use it as my avatar. I know that some forums don't allow you to use other people's images. Is it okay to use it?

Why are you asking this in the P:M forum?
Also, you could just look around at other people's avatars and determine that there's no rule against using other people's art.

I don't know a single forum on the internet that requires your avatar be your own creation...and if there are they sound like horribly ****ty forums.
