Can a character "not" be for you?

Ive been playing Pikachu for 4months and Im improving but honestly I kinda feel stuck and people often tell me that I dont have the play style for Pikachu.. I've been debating on dropping pika and giving up on him. I have all his combos, I know how to read my opponents.. I honestly don't know what I do wrong.. I just feel stuck & I don't think I am progressing. So my question is...
Can a character you like, simply not be for you?

2 questions:

1:Do you have a video of you playing?

2:What is your playstyle?

Of course. Whole games can be not for you.

Dropping a character isn't a binary thing though. You can try other characters and build up experience and still come back to Pika.

I've really been practicing and grinding with the character & I watch esam play but when I watch him I can't really learn. For example: I looked up esam vs a link player and esam completely destroyed the link player and he didnt have no type of mind games or anythhing while playing.. He just ran straight up and got grabs most of the time and gimped the link player.. The Link player didn't wall him out throw projectiles.. I swear when I do that to someone, I get wall'd out and camped

Sometimes I feel people are just nervous when fighting top players because they let them get away with so much stuff that I would never be able to get away with...

Obv Esam is the best Pikachu but I cant learn a MU from watching him when there's almost none of him playing Link, and every link he plays, he completely destroys with like 0 effort.

When you said "defensive" I expected a lot of waiting around and reactionary play, but watching the Diddy vid I'd say if anything you're overaggressive. Pressing buttons even when there's no chance of hitting, landing on your opponent's shield with fair/dair even though that's incredibly unsafe, etc.

I'm unsure what about Pika doesn't feel like he's for you, but despite what you've apparently been told he looks like a good fit for how you play; you just need to refine your play. I'm no expert on Pika, but some stuff that stuck out to me: fade back with sh fair instead of falling on shields to make it safe, don't forget grabs/quick attack/pivot fsmash exist, maybe go deeper for bair/Thunder edgeguards (though for the most part the Diddy wasn't very far offstage and your patience on the ledge + punishing his decisions to recover onstage was the right choice), etc.

Essentially, I think you feel stuck because you have the character down at a surface level. Now for improvement you need to be analyzing what you're doing, ironing out the wrinkles, and asking yourself what things you're doing wrong and how you could do them better. Work on spacing, think about what each option beats and when it might be best to just not commit to anything, and so on.

Though I guess to answer the original question,
Can a character you like, simply not be for you?
Yeah, definitely. I like :4megaman::4luigi::4jigglypuff::4metaknight:, but I'm garbage at playing them. I was also that way with :rosalina: initially though, and it wasn't until I started utilizing her toolkit better that she began to click for me.

I'm a Falco main and I've tried practicing with just about every top tier character and high tier character but after playing a local recently, I found that I can't play anyone else BUT Falco. Played :4cloud2::4metaknight::4sheik: and played some friendly sets with :4diddy::4pit::4pikachu:. Long story short, I was sent to losers early and after switching to Falco I went all the way to Loser's Finals. I'm also fairly certain I would've made it to Grand finals too if I just stuck with :4falco: from the beginning.

I think you should just keep going with Pikachu. Just because you feel like you're not doing well with a character it doesn't mean you should just drop them. Keep working hard with him and if in like 2 months you feel the same then you should maybe consider dropping. Over time you'll improve as a player and your fundamentals will improve, which will make you better. It may not even be your character or your playstyle, it probably is just your smash skill in general. (Btw i have not seen the video you linked of you playing)

I mean, I feel the same way about :4zss: because I want her to be my best main character, competitively and for fun. She's the character I'm the most committed to and the one that I play serious with. The thing is, my playstyle isn't how she should be optimally, leading to me making tons of mistakes and you have to be accurate with her and patient to win, something that I'm trying to fix. When I don't do well with her, it's a downward spiral because I tilt myself since I'm not having fun because of how I'm playing. I have :4littlemac: as my other main along with :4ryu: and :4cloud: pockets, to which I still play serious and have fun with, but with ZSS, I don't know. I'm going to keep going but if I feel like I don't have improvement, it's going to hurt myself because I want to be good with her but my skill level and everything else is preventing it.
