So I realize there's already a "should marijuana be legalized thread", but I thought this article is a bit more specific. If a mod thinks otherwise you're welcome to delete it or ask me to move it or whatever.

So what do you guys think about this new development. I believe federal regulations actually don't allow this type of thing to pass, but another good vote in favor of legalizing marijuana may be a step in the right direction.

Well I am pretty sure that as you said federal regulations dont allow it to pass, however federal regulations wont stop it from actually being passed into law, but rather the conflict will probably lead to a judicial review of the law, and eventually it will probably make it to the supreme court, where it can deal with individuals who are less corrupt (in my opinion) than your typical politicians, since they can stay in office as long as they like. That said I doubt that with the current makeup of the supreme court that this may be allowed to stay a law (assuming it actually passes). But if it does work, I would expect numerous other states to follow the example of California.

Hmm, after reading some of the law itself, I am skeptical as to if it will even pass in California now. It will probably get the signatures needed to make the ballot, but I dont see many people voting for it due to many of the other things it.

Here is the whole measure.

I wouldn't use it, but because tobacco is legal, why shouldn't weed? It doesn't really matter to me, but I guess some could call it a step forward.

Well ideally we would get rid of every drug that isnt given to someone to help them get better or deal with physical pain. But that is not very realistic. So acknowledging that a commonly used drug isnt as dangerous as it is made out to be, legalizing it, and taxing it is really the best way to go about solving problems related to it.

Weed shouldnt be legal i dont even like that tabacco is legal but w/e
Well, while we do have a thread to talk about this, I still want to know your reasons. Why do you think it shouldn't be legal?

In order to stay on topic could you read the article and specifically quote the parts you disagree with and tell us why? It's not a very long article...

For what reasons was marijuana outlawed by the government in the first place? Does the article mention them and whether or not those reasons aren't important anymore?

Marijuana is less synthetic than tobacco, so I see no reason to illegalize it. Marijuana in your own private home or designated place harms no one else, so what's the big deal.

It's great that they are doing this. It'll bring the marijuana debate to the main light and hopefully get some real research on what it actually does to the body and maybe show some progress.
