After abruptly moving across the country to start a new life, some people might immediately seek out their favorite chain restaurants or curl up with a familiar movie to ease the shock of transition. For my first full Saturday as a citizen of NorCal, I elected to go to a smash tournament. Specifically R^3, a combined Brawl/Melee event in San Francisco hosted by the very capable onski. Below are pictures of the venue with, I'm sure, some recognizable faces.

At around 11am, the Richmond room at the SFSU Conference Tower was close to empty, but full of anticipation.

Wall-to-wall carpeting and potted plants (not pictured)! WC tournaments are waaaaaaay different :D.

That water cooler was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was absolutely ransacked by 2pm.

Part of the entry tracking system was getting a smiley face or a random word drawn/written on your hand. Mine was hella good (thanks sky!).

The large chair graveyard in the center of the room provided a convenient place for Zhu to catch some z's.

Big crowds at the Brawl end of the room - 112 people registered for singles, 41 teams for doubles.

Several laptops, admins, and a projector made organization pretty darn coherent, even if doubles pools started 3 hours late.

Brawl/Brawlers:

Melee (72 singles entrants, 23 teams for doubles)!

Check out lucky and homemadewaffles, yo!

And then ... Scar vs. SilentSpectre money match!! Livestreamed, with homemadewaffles and Phil commentating!

I have video of crowd reactions for one of these matches (there was also a smasher with a video camera ... I just had my phone) and homemadewaffles will have vids up on his youtube page as soon as he's able to.

More later!
