C-stick inputs drop randomly

I've been having a problem where my c-stick inputs fail to register at random times. Sometimes it fails many times in a row (repeatedly trying to f-smash and nothing happens).

I find that when I pause the game and start moving the c-stick it goes back the being responsive (the screen pans around). I haven't noticed any problems when c-sticking in menu or pause screen.

This could be the controller failing at random times, but since I have noticed it with two of my controllers now (one wired and one wireless) it makes me suspect that the game could be failing to acknowledge the inputs. Or I just have two broken controllers.

Has anyone else noticed random input drops?

Brawl (and PM by extension) will only register a c-stick input if the c-stick is returned to a perfectly neutral state. If it's off by even a little bit, it won't work. Make sure the c-stick is neutral when the controller is first plugged in. I think there's a way to calibrate in game - holding Y+X+Z on either the character or stage select screen, though I don't remember which. I could be wrong on any part of that, though.

Upon additional testing I have found that if I repeatedly mash the c stick in one direction it will eventually fail to register the input.

Thanks.

Recalibrating seems to resolve the issue when I start to notice dropped inputs. It tends to start happening again after a while though.

I have noticed that problem too. I have checked my c-stick in vbrawl and I works perfectly. It only seems to drop out in pm and even then its only in an actual fight. It tilts the menu screens just fine.

I'm starting to think that this might not be a problem in the game, but in fact a result of my playing.

I can't be sure, because I don't watch my hands as I play, but I think that I sometimes rest my thumb on the c-stick in an odd way in anticipation of using it. By pushing it lightly in some weird direction, I am inadvertently causing it to not register until I fully release the stick (letting it go back to neutral). If I release the c-stick fully after every move and be as direct as possible when using it (pushing it directly to one of the four directions) it seems to always work fine.

Maybe there should be a buffer zone then to prevent accidentally having the c-stick not register. Yesterday I played pm with some friends who are very good at melee and they were having issues with the c-stick as well. At the very least I know that this problem with the c-stick is not present in brawl or melee but is present in pm.

^This isn't possible at this point in time.
The issue IS present in Brawl.

A deadzone would be great, but if not I still think its feasible for players to just learn to always reset their c-stick to neutral.

Of course, it will be another thing for the Melee purists to complain about, but I think it's already been established that PM =/= Melee, and is in fact a game of its own.
