C-Stick for Smash attacks a bad habit?

Hi, I've played smash for a long time, but just recently got back into playing it a bit more seriously, and something came to my mind.

Is using the c-stick for smash attacks a bad habit? I've no difficulty using smash attacks with the a button, I've simply gotten into the habit of using the c-stick more. But from what I hear, it is objectively better to use smash attacks with the a button. Is this true?

I almost always use the C-stick, especially if I'm stuck playing with Tapjump (forgot to toggle off, playing Melee, whatever). The only thing I can think would be better about using the A-button is that your fingers aren't moving as far, making it marginally more efficient.

It also takes a bit of practice for newcomers to learn to charge smashes with the C-Stick, but it's doable.

i use both personally, when i want to smash fast for like a combo finisher i use the c stick but when it comes on punishes and edge guarding or a large gap between my enemy i usually use the a too charge it.
- btw welcome to the forums :D i see its your first message.

I personally have used the A button for Smash attacks as long as I could remember, so as such, majority of my attacks use it (including aerials). However, there are special cases. These cases are:
Down in air (for Dair after apex of jump to attack without fast fall)
Up after releasing ledge (for frame perfect Uair off ledge since a frame or a few before I had to press the direction away from the ledge)
Back while in air and moving opposite direction (for maximum mobility since you can simultaneously move with the Directional Stick and attack the opposite way with the C-Stick)
Down while fast crawling after Wave Dash (cause I'm pressing backwards already and I want to DSmash)
Down for DACUS (see DACUS tutorial/wiki)

I'm sure you'll find more mandatory reasons in time. Other than that, it's truly preference, although, technically using the A button is the more efficient use of hand movement (like homerow keys method of typing)...assuming you hold the controller the standard way and have perfect coordination/agility to avoid charge frames.

It's fine to use this c stick
I totally know where your coming from because rumor floats around the Chicago land area
It often gets mixed up with you shouldn't become too dependent on the cstick

The guy working at Best Buy's Smash Fest said the C-Stick dumbed the game down, saying that it was in no way a helpful addition.

The C-stick is life in this game. It is best for smash attacks, aerials, to buffer OOS options.

I use C-stick for the vast majority of my smash attacks and aerials. I'd say it's extremely useful and important part of the game.

I never use it, and I'm going to be laughing when I have an edge because of it in SSB3D.

Preference really.

People like to use C-stick because they can navigate in the air with the control stick then.
