C-stick directional input issues

So I learned to SHFFL my aerials using c-stick as I understood this was the preferred method to influence your directional movement while also attacking, however, I've been having massive issues with consistency of input registered by the game.

Example: I try to UAIR and, and the c-stick is visibly moving straight UP, but it instead registers as if I'd pressed the control stick LEFT, instead giving me a DAIR or BAIR.

Does anyone have experience with this issue and have advice for dealing with it? It seems to happen with every controller I've tried.

Not sure I understand. Even if your control stick is pressed left, that won't affect your aerial if you are attacking with the C-stick instead of the A button.

I'm sorry, I wasn't using my terms appropriately. I press the c-stick UP and instead it registers as if I'd pressed the c-stick LEFT.

Since this is something I experience with all my controllers I assume its an issue with me. I'm just wondering if anyone else ran into this and overcame it a certain way.

Right now I'm just feeling like I have to overcompensate by attempting a diagonal up-right with c-stick to achieve my UAIR.

Try to not smash the c-stick in the direction, move it more slowly and it will be more accurate. That's my experience at least.

If it happens with every controller you've tried, its probably not the controller or the game. You're probably just not precise enough with c-stick inputs, and you're going to far left/right when you try Usmash/uair
