I'm an enormous follower of both Smash Bros (Melee + Brawl) and Skullgirls (...I love pretty much all fighting games despite my lack of skill), and I've been keeping a very close eye on the recent "race to EVO 2013".
Putting the typical trolls in both communities aside, I sincerely hope that neither the melee or skullgirls camp try to burn bridges with one another- I have a feeling that although the 8th spot at EVO is definitely a reward that is rightfully sought by both games, it's honestly not worth showing everybody's worst sides for. I've read reasonable and polite replies on both sides, and I'm very happy that there are still people like this in this sort of environment. Sure, there's a lot going on with the tweet (not going into detail about that here since there's already so much on it elsewhere), but I feel that:
1. On Smash's side, keeping civil and friendly can only improve the community's image. Sure it sounds cheesy, but being able to turn the other cheek is something that can only attract more players, while acting nasty and becoming too heated has the possibility of driving away positive attention.
2. On the SG side, not to react heatedly to the large number of trolls that have started popping up in their forums and even during the streaming last night; the same bit about turning the other cheek also applies here.
If everybody behaves positively and ignores the trolls, no matter what happens BOTH games have nothing to lose and everything to benefit from this as far as community perception and population goes.
Remember, in the end, the only loser will be breast cancer!
