Sometime recently, Bungie (Halo Makers) left Microsoft and became Independent meaning they will probably become third party or create individual first party games for each system.
This news is pretty gigantic for the gaming community. Discuss.
Very old news (1 week). Microsoft still has Halo, no other console will get the Halo series. And Microsoft has priority over Bungie's new games before PS3 and/or Wii.
Bungie said they will still be working on the 360 so the're basically a second party now. Meaning, we likely won't see any of their games on the Wii or PS3. If I remember right Microsoft gets first dibs on anything they create so if they like it the game will come to the 360 exclusively.
I bet we'll see a remake of Marathon. I have a feeling this is so because:
[MAJOR HALO 3 ENDING SPOILER]
At the end of Halo 3 in the Legendary ending, Master Chief survives the explosion and lands on a highly-technological planet that resembles the planet from Marathon. I have a feeling that Master Chief is the main character from Marathon. Bungie has also stated that the events of Halo take place about 200 years before Marathon. This is possible because Master Chief goes into a cryogenic sleep before landing on the planet.

The Halo and Marathon universes aren't connected, sorry. In Marathon the main character is wearing MJOLNIR Mark IV Security Armor, in Halo 3 you're wearing MJOLNIR Mark VI armor. Downgrade, much? Marathon takes place in the 2800 area, while the Halo games span 2552-2553. The Marathon ship launches from Mars sometime in the 2400 area though, it takes almost 400 years for the ship to get to Tau Ceti.
The planet seen in the Halo 3 legendary ending is not the Marathon ship, like some people are speculating. For one, it's much too large. The Marathon ship is a converted moon from Mars. The planet seen at the end of Halo 3 is huge. It's actually believed to possibly be Shangelio, the Elite's home world.
But yeah. The Marathon and Halo universes aren't connected.
And to Banks, you're ********, every one of Bungie's games has been praised.
