Bring in the clones?

I realize that people would go ballistic if this game was full of clones again, but is it possible that clones would actually be a great idea? A huge increase in the number of characters, include a few fan favorites, etc.... cloning movesets is incredibly lame but there are a few cases in Melee where people actually prefer the clones...

So I was thinking...

Mario - Paper Mario/Dr. Mario
Bowser's clone could technically be Ridley... fire/laser breath, slash, similar moves... except faster
Peach could have Daisy
Link - Young Link
Pikachu - ehhh, screw Pichu, bring in Raichu
Fox - either Falco or Wolf
Ice Climbers - Lolo & Lala
Yoshi's clone could be Gooey from the Kirby Series
Wario - Waluigi
Ike - Isaac
Meta Knight - Claus, they have similar themes
Pokemon Trainer - Rival, same concepts but with a different generation of Pokemon
King DeDeDe - Raphael Raven, to give Yoshi another rep

People would be pissed off for sharing movesets, but my question is: would you rather have characters you want in the game this way rather then not at all?

Would I want clones? Sure. Why not? Ganondorf was good, Falco was good, Doc was decent, to name a few. Sure, the clones are lame compared to a whole new character, but there is only so many concepts you can come up with before you have to start "cloning." IE: See Chapter 2, Final Smashes.

I always liked the idea of clones, as long as they're actually different. Been a while since I played Melee, but Marth/Roy had the right idea just implemented poorly (one has higher speed, other power... but they kinda messed that up), Link/Young Link I believe did it well too.

Carbon copies with different skins I wouldn't want, however.

*edit*
After reading the post above mine, the perfect example that I couldn't remember was Captain Falcon / Ganondorf. Power vs Speed, same basic controls and moveset.

Another one I thought of (because rumors seem to tether them together anyway)

is Mewtwo and Lucario. Mewtwo has strong elemental-ish attacks is slow and somewhat floaty, Lucario could be faster physically and more grounded, but they could still have very similar moves. I mean come to think of it, I would prefer this way more then nonsensically just kicking Mewtwo out of the series.

Mewtwo is dead, because he's a clone.

By the way, one of the greatest quotes I saw about Mewtwo.

They're similarities stop with standing upright, talking with their mind, and energy ball attacks.

Lucario is meant to be a fighter. Mewtwo is a powerful psychic who uses his mind to fight.

Lucario: Boxer. Mewtwo: Psychic. :urg: It's a bummer, sure, but making clones of each other wouldn't make much sense, and angry a lot of fans (think Ganondorf in Melee. People liked him, but were still pissed that not only he was a clone, but he didn't even have a sword)

Just sayin'. *shrugs*

Not really, the only thing Mewtwo and lucario would have in common is mewtwos energy ball and lucarios aura sphere. Every other move would be different.

Lucario would not use mewtwo's down B (Use's disable, Disable isn't one of lucario most known moves, I'm not sure if he can even learn it in the pokemon games)
Lucario would not use Mewtwo's up B(Lucario most likly won't vanish)
Lucario would not use mewtwo's side B(Mewtwo lifts foe with psychic energy)

Lucario would be nothing like mewtwo. Especially if they made aura sphere work differently then mewtwos energy ball.

To be honest I find the whole Mewtwo is like Lucario idea absurd.(I'm not saying this to you just what people have said about it in general.)

I don't really liked the idea of clones... But if it meant more characters, then why not? A few of my most played characters in Melee were clones such as Doc, Falco and Ganondorf, although I don't know why Ganondorf was a clone in the first place.

Clones is an awesome idea for Brawl. I was not upset at all about the clones in Melee. Whyfor? take for example the Fox/Falco combo. Fox and falco played totally differently; I did not consider them to be the same character whatsoever. Even a change in weight/power/floatyness can drastically change the way a character is played. Not convinced? Capt. Falcon vs. Ganondorf? c'mon, just try and argue that they felt like the same character. Yes they may share a moveset, but the animations and practically everything about the moveset differs from character to character.

Conclusion? YES! bring in the clones for the love of pete. However, since Sakurai said that he was trying to avoid clones this time around I doubt we're going to see many if any at all.

Oh, and just a clone to add to your list, Sonic, Tails, and/or Knuckles and/or Shadow. btw, ive wanted a second pkmn trainer since we first heard about red; that would be awesome.

Excuse me? Ridley as a Bowser clone? Lookit them WINGS, son!

Gooey as aYoshi clone? What on Earth do they even have slightly in common?

Waluigi is deconfirmed as an AT.

Daisy is deconfirmed as a Peach alt costume.

Raphael Raven doesn't have a hammer.

None of these really work even as clones.

?

I don't really know anything about Isaac. He has a sword or something? I'm just making suggestions to include fan favorites that pretty much seem dead in the water as of the currently rumored roster.

And Ridley and Bowser is really not as farfetched as you're making it out to be. They both share "breath" attacks... they both share "slash" attacks... Bowser's Up B spin attack could = Ridley rapidly flapping his wings (used as a recovery and as a move similar to DK's Down B)... instead of a Bowser *** slam, Ridley's Down B would be a giant leap up and a rapid swoop down. Bowser turns into Giga Bowser. Ridley turns into Meta/Omega Ridley. It's not unthinkable. And if this was, for some freak reason, the only way to make Ridley playable, sign me up, man.

I realize Waluigi and Daisy are deconfirmed for other reasons. I was just making suggestions. I wouldn't even want Daisy in the game to begin with. Raphael Raven doesn't NEED a hammer. He could still be a big goon with power moves who could float. That's where the small DIFFERENCES come in between characters. Gooey has a tongue? Instead of turning them into an egg, he could absorb powers like Kirby. Like a Yoshi/Kirby hybrid.

As if before Melee came out you would have believed that Falcon and Ganondorf would share a moveset?

You're the kind of moron that gives clones and people who like them a bad name.
How the %$(# do you think Ridley would be a clone of Bowser?
And how the %&*$ do you think that Daisy has ANY CHANCE OF BEING PLAYABLE AFTER POOR WALUIGI GOT THE AT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Waluigi, Goroh, Deoxys not characters = Bowser Jr. not character as well. He still has a shot, don't get me wrong.... but it's significantly less. And btw he'd be the Bowser clone, not Ridley. Ridley will be a boss.

No, clones are horrible. If they're not going to do a character justice they shouldn't add him at all.

Bowser & Ridley, now that you bring it up, DO have similar moves they could use. Maybe that's why Bowser's Koopa Claw was taken away? All you REALLY have to do is change Ridley's Up B to a move that triggers gliding, have him shoot fireballs or plasma out of his gullet with his neutral B and down b to some sort of tail attack.

Ridley as a Luigi-fied, flying Bowser would actually not be a bad idea :D I just want to play as Ridley :chuckle:
