BrawlEX Issues

Hi everyone.

I donloaded a BraxlEx Pack to my SD Card and it runs fine, however when I try to add in my own two clones, my game freezes when I try to select either of them. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'm using the USB Channel as well as File Patch Code v3.5.1, and my SD Card is 2 G Micro.

Thanks

What exactly did you do to add these two clones? There are quite a few ways in which adding clones can go wrong, so if we know what you did, we can narrow down the possible issues.

I used the Clone Tool (XP) and added my two clones, Sonic and Lucario. I changed their names and used the Mass Renamer for the two Sonic and Lucario folders, naming the files the same as the names I gave my two clones. I copied the two folders to fighter, and then dragged their two ExModules, naming them ft_meph and ft_cmeph, again the exact same as what I renamed my clones to. I opened up the module files in BrawlBox and changed their id's in Section 08 to the clone Id.

Then I booted up Brawl using the USB Loader Channel, turned Ocarina cheats on and selected AXNextframe as the Hooktype, then booted up ssbb. And then I froze at the CSS.

Don't do this, as the clone IDs all clash with the module IDs of other modules. Instead, change them to something above 0x90 (depending on how many clones are in the pack, you may need to go up to 0xA0 or 0xB0).

Also, some versions of BrawlBox have issues with the BrawlEx module files, and can corrupt them. You'll have more success if you use the BrawlEx module editor instead.

Ok, So I only change the numbers in the Module Editor and not the ID in the Clone Tool, or both?

Those are hexadecimal numbers. If a number begins with 0x, that means it's a hexadecimal number. File size has nothing to do with it.

In this case, 0x64 translates to 100 in decimal, so assuming those are 67 and 68 in decimal, those IDs are fine.

I think I get it, what I need to do is first look at the Clone ID, translate that from decimal and type in the decimal number in the module? Not sure though, I still froze. Mind you I'm using a calculator for this... :I

No, the clone ID and module ID should be entirely different. The clone ID should be below 100 (decimal), while the module ID should be above 0x90.

Then my clone ID is fine. I have 53 clones and 87 characters in total. Is it possible I've reached the amount of clones available? I've read that it's possible to have a total of 100 characters.

Yes, you should be able to have up to 100. The clones' IDs do appear to be fine. Like I said, if you're setting the module ID to be the same as the clone ID, that's your problem. Set the module IDs to something completely different, like 0xFE and 0xFF (don't set them to the same numbers, though). Based on what you've told me so far, the module IDs appear to be clashing with existing modules, which would cause them to break - no two modules can share the same IDs, and 0x00 to 0x8F are all occupied by the game's own modules. Your clones' modules need to have IDs outside that range. You already have 53 clones - assuming their IDs are set in order, that would go up to 0xC4, so your modules' IDs would need to start from at least 0xC5.

I changed the module ID's to C5 and C6, and I froze. Should I change the C6 to something else, like is it to close to C5?
Also, are there any specific rules for clone naming? I have one clone named Meph, and the next is called CrysMeph.

That shouldn't be an issue. Try setting them to something else, like 0xD0 and 0xD1.

As long as no two characters (either default or clones) are the exact same name, no.

Changed them both to 0xD0 and 0xD1, still froze. I'm starting to wonder if I'm using the wrong version of the Clone Tool, seeing as it doesn't even load a lot of the characters seeing as it only loads four clones. I'm using v0.75. Also, I haven't added in any custom CSP's or battle portraits, but as far as I know that's not needed. One more thing I can think of is my SD card is almost full, only having 67,5 MB space left, and it's format is FAT.

The SD card is formatted correctly.

Maybe try adding them without using the clone tool? That always gives me problems, so I never use it myself.

Sure, I'll try that. What do you use instead?

If it was working originally, then you don't need to change any codes.
It was working and still is, in a way. My game doesn't detect my two new clones. I'll change the code and see what happens. I used the CSS code, and my wii froze.

Is there a file in the /brawlex/ folder called CSSRoster.dat? If so, then don't use the CSS code. Instead, you need to change that file using a hex editor.

Sorry for the late reply, been pretty busy this last week. I've gotten HxD installed and replaced 57 to 59 since I added 2 more characters, and I froze after the Loading Screen before the Title Screen. I didn't Hex edit any of the config files except change them to the new character ID's (D0 and D1 in this case)
I then opened up the module files in Module Editor again and went to Section 8 and changed the numbers back to their original (I originally changed them to D0 and D1)
Do I need to do some editing to the Config files? I just renamed them to CSSSlotD1, FighterD1 etc.

And yeah, CSSRoster.dat was there.
