Ok we all know brawl has the potential to be one of the greatest games ever for nintendo...but is going to be held back by Nintendos rubbish online service (Friend Codes nintedo can't be serious) Medal of Honour Heores 2 provides all that we would want with brawl (besides headsets). Medal of Honour has Leader Boards and most importantly play Anyone at Anytime now thats great. These developers were smart to say F the friend codes and go to EA server why doesn't brawl do that?..the EA Serverswould be so cool or nintendo could alternatively at least why cant Nintendo make a better online system. Brawl will need some serious upgrading to compete with the XBOX LIVE step up nintendo Medal Of Honour Heroes did.

you do know the only reason that nintendo has friend codes is so that they dont get sued.A game devoloped by EA has no affiliation with nintedo hence no friend codes.also do you know how many people disconnect from online games whe theres a leader board. Besides who the f..k cares about knowing who you fight? Thats why smashboards here, so you can change friends codes with someone and THEN fight online.besides I like to think of it as computers with A.I varying from Noobish to Insanely good.

so all in all, Please no affiliation with EA.

Oh and what he said 'looks up at post'

actually i think the nintendo services actually fit smash pretty well. but communication could still be a problem.

friend codes suck for FPS because they usually involve more players.

but in smash you will at most be playing with 4 people. Hopefully we will be able to see the ruleset of games tho to avoid joining item battles if we dont feel like playing them.

quoted for truth

Im guessing, in against anyone mode, you are randomly matched up with players that have the same options as you.

Having a leader-board style online connection might be bad for Brawl, if you ask me. A big part of Brawl's fanbase are twelve and under, and if you don't know how petulant a pre-teen who just got four-stocked can be, then you don't wanna learn. With this minimalistic online feature, we don't have to worry about listening to some snot-nosed brat try to say 'lol j00 @r3 t3h n0000b-eh f@ggz0t' out loud. And if people wanted to be seriously competitive, they could just go to a tournament.

If they made it as good as Xbox Live then we'd have to pay for online. I would love to see rankings and a headset, but Nintendo's playing the "family friendly" card so I doubt we'll be seeing either. Like people said, there would be lots of cussing if there was a headset and Nintendo's not going to want that.

No they can't not everyone can travel to tournaments and if ppl are from different countries how will they be able to compete the EA server will enhance brawl by making it more enjoyable for lots of people all over the world. This is the purpse for online to prove to be the best in the world and compete with everyone

No, they can't. Not everyone can travel to tournaments and if people are from different countries, how would they be able to compete? The EA server will enhance brawl by making it more enjoyable for lots of people all over the world. This is the purpose for online: to prove to be the best in the world and compete with everyone

(Grammar-fixed) In your opinion. In my opinion, online's aspect as a place to foster casual smashing is more important than a seriously competitive service. I also believe that Sakurai is trying to make Brawl geared more towards the casual crowd than Melee was, with adjustments like No Wavedash and the slower pace.

Besides: International Smash Tournaments? That'd be a bit extreme, IMO. Do they even have international Halo tournaments?

Say, has Microsoft or Sony ever been sued because of their online Voice Chatting?

Why do you assume that Nintendo needs outside help to set up that sort of online system? They could have done leaderboards and rankings and usernames if they wanted to. They chose to use friend codes instead. I would certainly prefer the ability to use names for friends, and/or to see the names of random pubbers(other Nintendo games do this, I don't really get that), but I'm very happy that there won't be rankings. Rankings ruin online games. I much prefer that people just be focused on having fun and not on improving their stats with every game.

I have not been impressed with EA online yet, but really, I don't see how friend codes hurt with Brawl.

I mean, I really don't feel like getting matched up with some random person, I would rather either play with friends, or someone I know is around my level. Getting something like:

8 year old kid
7 year old kid
Pro
8 year old kid

Just wouldn't be fun, because I am going to beat the kids without a problem more than likely and then the pro will take me out without losing a stock XD

I do think that while using the friend code option, they could optionally have headsets. My computer is right next to my Wii/TV though, and my friend's are as well, so we could Vent or Skype and have it anyway.

I think the current system is fine, except, they shoudl make some form of a sysmtem, like 50 online wins makes you level 2, 100 is level 3, (going by 50s) up to an exterme number. Then there should be an option to find people your level, so pros can face pros when they get to that level.

Brawl doesn't need s**t. It's hella good the way it is. But alliances would make it hella better, but they don't need it.

i actually dont want headsets. i play melee a lot when im REAL pissed and im sure its gonna b the same with brawl and if im REAL pissed i am not going to feel like getting cursed out by an 8 year old just because i whooped his a**. i also wouldnt curse any body out just cuz a pro came outta nowhere and kicked my a**. leaderboards would b great so i could know who exactly are pros and who exactly arent so good. if not, lvls would b great like a specific number of wins gets u a level up. If ima level 13, i wouldnt wanna be fighting a level 65. EA could help out significantly.

Ugh read the update:

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/wi-fi01.html

It includes the option of connecting with random people if you actually read it. That is all we are going to need. Leaderboards are pointless because people will find ways to cheat/disconnect/whatever, and that has been proven over and over. If someone really believes that they are that good at smash, they will go to a tournament. Halo has had an established online system for a while, yet there are still live tournaments because lag can ruin games. Brawl is going to be the same way. Friend codes (to play against people you know and to ensure good connections) and random battles (for those who are looking for new players or don't know a lot of people who play smash) are more than enough, although headsets might be a good idea for the friend code matches.

This space is reserved for more ****.
I Strongly Agree with this. At least get rid of the Friend codes and communcate with anyone. And if there so worried about Little kids and there privacy well then there should be a option of communcation blocks parents can deal with. And if there like nope i sue you. Nintendo would just be like no ***** it says in our manaul eat **** and die.

Medal of honor is just like, yes nintendo fans get some freedom online and then brawl is like im the greatest game for nintendo but u cant communcate and u have to use Fcs so pwned biiiitch. You should be able to add who ever u want instead of gay friend codes. online would be so much better then.

So basically Nintendos online Matchmaking function is just Vsing human like bots that u cant even say gg to at the end of a match or like hey do you were kool wanna be friends. Or simply go to hell i h8 you.

I don't want to pay for faster service that still lags. If it lags, which it will, I will never take it very seriously. So I don't want to pay for it.

I actually like the way online play for Brawl will be implemented.
Anonymous fighting means people are less likely to exploit, disconnect or want to win too badly, while allowing us to be a bit more competitive with our friends.

It could be much worse.

EDIT: Not everything with EA's name on it is complete rubbish. They've helped to publish heaps of good games, like Red Alert 2 and (I think) The Orange Box. They didn't actually develop the games thank god, but they have their name on it.

Do you really think Friend Codes are going to hold back Brawl's potential so much? Nintendo has and always will be family friendly that is why they have established friend codes into their Wi-fi service. I think they are taking it very seriously otherwise why opt for an online service (that is free), if they weren't?

Why does Brawl need to compete with XBOX LIVE? A free service vs one you don't have to pay for at all. I'm happy with the online service that Nintendo is providing as of right now; it's better than not having online at all; don't you agree?

It really surprises me how people are not satisfied at all. Would you rather not have Brawl have Wifi play at all, just because it's not comparable/have all the features to XBOX Live? Nintendo has been known to be family friendly. You can play randomly if you want, and it's not as if you can't spend 5 min online exchanging Friend Codes. If Nintendo had made those pay for Brawl wifi play perhaps they would have went in more depth, however they didn't so your just going to have to accept it.

As it stands, it's very unlikely that the specific tournament setup will be an option for random matches, which is my main gripe.
Also, I want communication for friend matches (something more than the one we're given).

I say send the Friend Codes to hell.

They completely took over Westwood studios after Red Alert 2 and released Command and Conquer 3...Pure rushed, crap game

Yes, they did, and yes, it was.
However, Red Alert 2 was awesome.

I don't think making a deal with EA would be worth it (nor would it be logical) with Brawl, though.

yeah EA has ruined some of the best game franchises out there. They are an evil company and I refuse to own any game with their logo. Plus the games are generally sub par because they know people will buy them, therefore they dont have to put any efford into making quality games. Or if they do make a good game, they close that company and stop making games of that franchise. See: Ultima Online, Oddworld, etc
