My friend MXXD and I are making an SSBB machinima. Unlike others though, we're taking a different approach.
Unlike other machinima, we're choosing a never-used protagonist: Mr. Game and Watch.
Our antagonists are Mario and Donkey Kong.
The plot goes as such:
On his birthday, Mr. Game and Watch is depressed. The only person who can understand him is R.O.B., and nobody else can communicate with him. After talking with some friends, he learns that there is a way for him to get a voice; He must travel to the real Final Destination which the game stage in Brawl is based off of, where he will meet the spirit of Fusajiro Yamauchi, the founder of Nintendo, and make a wish to him for a voice.
Game and Watch has a problem though: Mario and Donkey Kong don't want him to get a voice. He's been around as long as they have, and he knows all of their deep, dark secrets. If he can speak with everyone, they may be ruined. So they enlist the help of other Nintendo protagonists to take him out.
The series is mainly a drama. Issues are dealt with such as true desire, family, racism, the meaning of truth, and there are a lot of new looks and takes on these old, beloved characters. There's also a lot of humor sprinkled throughout, so the series isn't too dark.
So here are voices needed for the first episode. Primary Auditions are due January 20th. Send your auditions to my email: maxiedweck@yahoo.com
This thread will be updated as more episodes are written and more characters are needed.
Main Characters:
Heroes:
R.O.B. (Male):
R.O.B. is G&W's best friend, and the brains of G&W's group, as well as the only person able to understand G&W. He's very smart, but at the same time, his Artificial Emotions make him a very trustworthy friend. He's a very complex person, and has a very dry sense of humor.
-Voice Info: R.O.B. is probably the most important character in the series, because in addition to his lines, he also has to play translator for Game and Watch so the other characters can understand him. His voice should be a deep, medium to medium-low male voice, pretty straightforward, not robotic at all. We'll add that in editing. He should sound like a real person and able to perform a variety of emotions.
Audition Lines:
1. (Cheerily) Happy birthday Mr. Game and Watch! How are you today?
2. (Sad and sober) Game and Watch... my intelligence, my emotions... they're not real! They're all ones and zeros! We're friends, but not real friends, because I can't feel real friendship! But maybe... where you find a voice... I can find a real soul... one that would take place of the heartless subroutines and programming that lie under this chassis... and make me truly alive.
3. (Angry) WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT LONELINESS? HUH!? WHAT DO YOU KNOW!?
Ice Climbers (Male for Popo, Female for Nana, BUT YOU CAN DO BOTH IF YOU THINK YOU CAN PULL IT OFF):
Nana:
Nana is, for lack of better words, a *****. She's the aggressive older twin sister of Popo (by two minutes) and leader of the Ice Climbers. She's very rude, and has an incredibly domineering and fierce personality. She's also incredibly energetic, and a good person at heart. She's friends with Game and Watch because she believes shunned characters have to stick together.
-Voice Type: Medium to Medium-High, strong and fierce, but still sounding somewhere between a teenager and kid, though more on the kid side. Sassy too.
-Lines:
1. (Braggy) And then some! We’ve been just about everywhere. We’re called the Ice Climbers, but we can really travel any terrain!
2. (Studiously) There’s an old story that tells of a place called the Final Destination, where all great spirits of gaming go, that’s the inspiration for the Smash Brother stage of the same name. According to the story, the spirit of Fusajiro Yamauchi, the man who founded the Nintendo Koppai card company in 1889 which later became the Nintendo we know today, resides there, and will grant one wish to any living soul that can somehow reach this mythical place. (Don't worry, most lines won't be this long)
3. (Angrily) Oh what do you know? You don’t even have a little brother!
Popo:
Popo is the comedic foil to Nana's loud personality. He's very passive, somewhat timid, but still a wiseguy on occasion. He's afraid of Nana in some respects, but really cares about everyone he knows, and is always quick to act as the straight man in any situation. There's a lot of sibling rivalry between him and Nana though.
-Voice: Medium-High to High, definitely sounding more like a kid than a teenager, soft and timid, but not scared, just a little shy.
-Lines:
1. (Straightforward) Nana, we climb mountains. That’s about it.
2. (Appalled) Nana, that's not nice!
3. (Angry and Upset) MOM ALWAYS LIKED YOU BEST!
Bowser: (Male)
Yes, Bowser is a protagonist in this series. Bowser joins G&W because while he knows Mario's secrets, nobody would believe him if he told them, so he wants G&W to get a voice so G&W will spill the beans. Bowser turns out to be a caring friend, but he is still a jerk at times, being insensitive and ruining other people's moments. He's the brawn of the group and acts as a comic foil, though is sometimes very insightful, and not as pigheaded as he comes off.
-Voice Type: Deep, definitely a low voice, sounding like an adult. You can get a little craggly, gruff, or even demonic if you want to. I would also not object to some kind of accent, from any European culture of your choice, except Spanish or French.
-Lines:
1. (Like he's plotting something) Finally... Mario's gonna get what he deserves.
2. (Annoyed and Yelling) My kids came from the stork! It's that simple! There were no inter-species relationships involved, okay!?
3. (Jolly) HAHAHA! That's what I bring to the party!
Luigi: (Male)
Luigi joins G&W because he can't stand to see the corruption that has been going on inside Mario for so long. He's really upset about having to stop his brother from doing anything evil, and is often contemplative, quiet, and conflicted.
-Voice Type: Personally, I really want to do this voice, but I'm going to be fair anyway and let people audition. I really want it to sound EXACTLY like Luigi from the games, so if you've got a Luigi voice that I think trumps mine, you get the role, unless someone else's is even better of course.
-Lines:
1. (Yelling, then Somber) MY BROTHER!? MY BROTHER DIED INSIDE OF THAT... THAT THING A LONG TIME AGO! I'm sorry Mario... but this is goodbye.
2. (Seriously) Daisy... please... it's not true. None of it is true!
3. (Happy) YAHOO! I DID IT! I SAVED EVERYONE! GO LUIGI!
Villains:
Mario: (Male)
Mario is a big-time celebrity, and known and loved as an all-around nice guy. All of the other characters have a profound respect for him, even other big names like Link. But his road to fame is actually paved over a bunch of dark secrets he doesn't want revealed, and he grows more anxious over time as Game and Watch comes closer to getting a voice.
-Voice Type: It's Mario, this ain't rocket science. But I don't want the constant, goofy, over the top "IT'S-A ME! MARIO!" attitude he usually displays. More of a casual "Hey guys, it's me, Mario. How's it goin'?" kind of attitude, but with the same voice.
-Lines:
1. (Mockingly) Come on DK! Don't tell me you can't do this! It's so simple!
2. (Defensively) Hey, I need a lot of carbohydrates to give me the energy to save the Princess, okay? It's tough!
3. (Panicy) WHAT!? Oh, excuse me, I have to use the bathroom.
Donkey Kong: (Male)
DK is another big-time celebrity, though not as much as Mario. He's much more casual and laid back, and while he's not smart, he's not dumb either. He also has a desire to start a family, and sees Diddy as something of a son, but he needs to make sure his secrets never get out or his happy lifestyle will be ruined.
-Voice Type: I want a sorta fatherly, casual voice. A real sounding voice that the words "Hey, how's it going, kiddo?" would sound perfect in. Bonus points if you sound like Dexter's Dad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTDxXII1Sn0
-Lines:
1. (Confused) I don't see how that's a problem.
2. (Angry and Defensive) OH YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TALK YOU LITTLE MEATBALL!
3. Just for the hell of it, let's hear you say, "Hey, how's it going, kiddo?" If it sounds just right to me, you have a very good chance of getting the role.
Other:
Pit: (Male)
Pit is an all-around nice guy, friendly with everybody, and his popularity in Brawl is giving him a comeback, making him something of a rising star. Still, he's a good-natured person in appearance, and very understanding.
-Voice Type: Medium to Medium-High, sounding like a real teenager, but not too much so. Going through puberty, but not finished. Very casual, very uplifting.
-Lines:
1. (Casual Through The Whole Thing) No, it’s fine. When you’re dead, these kinds of things don’t really bother you as much. Though I’ll let you know that when I was alive, I had an older sister. Her inability to cook is the reason I died so young. It was a kitchen fire.
2. (Encouraging, Straightforward, Then Encouraging) I like you Game and Watch. I never have any clue what you’re trying to say, but I like you.
3. (Shy) I feel somewhat uncomfortable about that. I really feel awkward about this whole situation. I mean, you guys are such big stars and everything…
Peach: (Female)
Peach is a minor character throughout the whole series, not airheaded, but unaware of what's going on. She's very relaxed, but has a certain air of royalty and can be very ladylike, and is almost never angry. When she is angry though, she's a force to be reckoned with.
-Voice Type: A medium-high to high voice, both sweet and strong at the same time. I didn't go to Rina-Chan immediately because I honestly think other people deserve a chance to voice female roles in the VA community, and I want to see if I can get some lesser-known talent for this whole thing.
-Lines:
1. (Cheery) Hi Mario! How are you doing?
2. (Formal) Hello Pit. It's nice to see you again.
3. (Angry) MARIO MARIO! (NOTE: That's his first and last name, not calling for him twice) GET YOUR PLUMBER BUTT DOWN HERE THIS INSTANT!
So yeah, that's it. Hope you all send great auditions. There will be more characters as the series goes on, and we hope this'll be good. No negativity on this project. Remember, deadlines are January 20th (inauguration day), and you send the auditions to maxiedweck@yahoo.com
