So the other day I sent Nintendo an e-mail after someone suggested it asking if a demo was going to happen any time soon. I got an e-mail back today (about 3-4 days later) and here's what it said:

Hello,

At this time, we don't have any plans to offer a game demo of Super Smash Bros.
Brawl. Typically, game demos are released to familiarize players with a game they
hadn't heard of and encourage them to buy it. I think you'll agree that's really
not the case with Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

If, however, a demo is made available in the future, we'll be sure to post the news
to Nintendo's official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website. I've included a direct link
to it below:

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.

Emailing Nintendo is always one of those "don't worry, we don't have plans, but they do" type of thing. Remember, this is Nintendo of America, it'll appear in japan first...

In all honesty, I never expected to see a demo at all and was pretty unlikely to think such things would happen.

Well, we might get one of those new channels like metroid prime has just got. Basicly a lot of auto updating videos and bonus features, a bit like the smash site execpt in the form of a channel. Otherwise its not likely.
Even if nintendo had the ability to easily distrobute a demo, they seem to dislike the whole demo thing.
I dont mind though, more suprise and joy when the final product arives I guess.

As cool as it would be, I can't see there being a demo either unless it's really, really bare-bones. At the very least, we'll probably get a preview channel like with Metroid Prime 3.

Yeah. When I heard "MP3 on Shop Channel!" I rushed to my Wii expecting a demo, and all I got were streamed videos.
You can probably guess what happened after.

The problem with demos is that they get old after awhile. Plus, some things in the demo could be removed for the actual game.

What else could the "December surprise" be from Nintendo Power? And isn't this new company that runs Nintendo Power the same company that includes demos with their magazines? I may have to agree and say that it could be an automated response. They must be getting a ton of questions regarding the demo.

I asked my father about it (he was a marketing major) and said that parents would buy their children (younger ones like 11 or so) the demo for however much it would sell for, for Christmas, and there are chances the child would be satisfied with the demo or the parents refuse to buy the full version afterwards.

My response was that there will be more than enough people buying the demo and the full game to cancel out those who only buy the demo.
