Brawl Costume Manager can't replace CSPs in 3.5?

I've been trying to replace some CSPs for a while now when 3.5 has been out and I just keep getting the error "Unable to open file for write access". It worked perfectly in 3.0 but now it's not. Also, for some costumes, the battle portrait won't even appear. :( Can anyone help? b3069ac38a4e7d6168be248f26f79f4a.png

That is what I'm getting.

Not 100% on all the differences from 3.02 > 3.5 for Brawl Costume Manager, but I've always found that that program gave me a lot of trouble from 3.02 anyhow. If you have BrawlBox (often coupled with the Brawl Managers), you can bypass whatever issues BCM may be giving you (at least for instances like these) by doing the following:

  • For CSPs, open projectm > pf > system > common5.pac
  • sc_selcharacter_en > char_bust_tex_lz77
  • Find the relative character folder (Marth's is MiscData[16] > Textures(NW4R))
  • Right-click and "Replace" each CSP with your desired custom CSPs
  • For CSS icons, open projectm > pf > system > common5.pac
  • sc_selcharacter_en > MiscData[70] > Textures(NW4R)
  • Find the relative character file (Marth's is MenSelchrChrFace.017)
  • Right-click and "Replace" it with your desired custom CSS icon.
  • For Stock images, open projectm > pf > system > common5.pac
  • sc_selcharacter_en > MiscData[90] > Textures(NW4R)
  • Find the relative character files (Marth's are InfStc.161 - InfStc.170)
  • Right-click and "Replace" them with your desired custom stock images.
  • For Results Screen CSPs (the second CSP image displayed to the right in Brawl Costume Manager; if you're replacing CSPs, you'll want to replace this too), open projectm > menu > common > char_bust_tex, and
  • find the relative character file (Marth's is MenSelchrFaceB016)
  • Open it in BrawlBox, right-click, and "Replace" each results screen CSP with your desired custom CSPs.
  • For BPs, open projectm > pf > info > portrite, and
  • find the relative character files (Marth's are InfFace161.brres - InfFace170.brres).
  • These may likely not be in your default build of PM. I'm not quite sure how to make new files with what the default build offers, but I can say that some other PM modders do...
  • For the sake of getting the relative character files, download SJS's 3.5 build.
  • Copy and paste the relative character files in projectm > pf > info > portrite from SJS's 3.5 build into your own 3.5 build.
  • Open them each individually in BrawlBox and repeat the following
  • In Textures(NW4R), right-click and "Replace" each BP with your desired custom BP. BPs take the longest out of any of these to replace (you'll probably see why once you start trying this out), but if you only have to do it for one character it shouldn't take too long.

I'll keep a note of this. It's gonna come in handy.

Edit: I have another question if someone can help. Do I need to make another thread or can I just ask here?

Do you have the list of character sub folders for CSP's?

Oh, alrighty, that's easier then. I was wondering how do you replace audio clips? I'm not talking about music on stages I'm meaning like say for example, importing custom announcer voice clips.

Oh, you have to use a program called super sawndz for that. I don't have too much experience with it, so I'd recommend asking Amazerommu via PM or something. He's the guy who seems to do the most SFX stuff around here. Either that or ask in Theytah's Mod school thread.

I would link you, but I couldn't find them elsewhere myself so I just had to note them down manually aha.
Here:
CSPs = char_bust_tex_lz77 > MiscData[XX]
CSS Icons = MiscData[70] > MenSelchChrFace.(0XX+001)
Stock Images = MiscData[90] > InfStc.(0XX+001)
BPs = InfFaceXX1.brres to InfFace(XX1+009).brres
Results Portraits = MenSelchrFaceBXX0.brres

No biggie; I've been going over and replacing so many CSP/BP/CSS stuff over the past few days that I have it half-memorized by now lol, took like 2 min to write up.
