Now that Brawl is out in Japan, we've enabled you to list your Brawl friend code on your SWF profile. Simply go to your User CP and choose "Edit Profile" to add your Brawl friend code once you've got one. It will appear on your profile and on your postbit, just like your Wii number.

Most of you are probably aware that in Brawl you can play matches online against other people. Like most Nintendo online titles, however, you'll either need to get someone's Brawl friend code to play against them, or you'll have to resort to the "With Anyone" mode, which limits you to playing against nameless, faceless strangers.

Obviously, most people will prefer the functionality of "With Friends," but the problem is in getting someone else's friend code. We here at Smash Boards are keenly aware of this concern, and as the largest Smash Bros. community anywhere, we've got a solution that will make this process much easier.

Introducing the SWF Friend Finder:

Using it is simple. When you open the Friend Finder, you'll see a list of everyone else who's currently using the Friend Finder, sorted by status. You can either be Online, Seeking Brawl, or Brawling. In addition, if you have anyone on your buddy list, you'll see them listed under "Offline" if they aren't currently using the Friend Finder.

You can set some preferences along with your online status, which will be visible to everyone else on the Friend Finder. So if you're looking for someone else to play with in Home Run Contest, or just a straight 1v1 match, you'll be able to specify that. And if you'd like to keep some other rules in mind (like a stage you want to play, your location, etc.), you can mention that too by specifying a message to appear under your name.

When you find someone who you'd like to play (most likely "Seeking Brawl"), just click on their name, and you'll be able to send them a challenge:

The other user will receive your challenge on their screen. If they're not currently paying attention to the Friend Finder, most browsers will pop up a dialog box to get their attention. From there, they'll be able to either accept or decline your challenge.

If they decline, you'll get a message informing you.

If they accept, they'll be given your Brawl friend code, and you'll get a message with theirs. Both of your online statuses will be automatically set to "Brawling," so that others know that you probably won't respond to their challenges. All that's left is to head to your Wii, add each other's codes to Brawl, and start playing.

The Friend Finder runs in your web browser, via a popup window. You'll be able to have it running while you're browsing SWF, or while you're doing something else entirely.

We plan to launch the Friend Finder in a sort of test form soon, to help with debugging. Because most of our members won't be getting Brawl until its North American release, we'll use the intervening time to polish up the Friend Finder and incorporate your comments and suggestions. More information on this will follow, but in the meantime, know that we're hard at work at making Brawl's online play as straightforward as possible.
