When I think about all the time I played Melee without knowing about smashboards or Melee tournaments I just want to cry. Think about all the people out there who don't know about smashboards. It's a terrible crime for such a resource to be so under-tapped. Brawl should make specific mention of smashboards in its manual, guide book, and on the back of the game case itself.

(speaking of recources being under-tapped... have you joined the global smasher compendium yet?)

Yeah this site is a pretty good resource, I agree with you.

Nintendo Power had an article about these forums...

I doubt they'd include an unofficial website in their manual-- especially when they'll have their own website.

You're probably right. But smashboards kicks the **** out of official websites. Making specific mention of smashboards would be mutualy beneficial to both Brawl and Smashboards.

Too bad it isn't going to happen.Nintendo will only link resources to their official site. The more popularity & hits, the more money.

Unless they take our offer with benifits,it isn't going to happen.

Most people who are serious about playing this game will probably find their way here at some point or the other.

None of your business.
It wouldn't make sense for them to mention SWF in the manual. They mentioned it in NP, yes, but Nintendo is not about to give props to an unofficial fan site, no matter how large. SORRY CHAPS!!

*walks away pondering why 'chaps' was said in a post...*

I only found out about SmashBoards this past year when everyone I played Smash with suddenly got 1000x better. I was getting wrecked by the advanced techs, and this website was a great resource to learn stuff.
I can't wait to see what this place is like when Brawl comes out.

Yeah I agree granted the Smash dojo website doesn't do ****. Although updated by Saukri himself, he only updates every once in a while and the last post was him prasing the Wii. Not why you have the website bucko! Tell us about Brawl darnit!

Edit: Daily Weekday updates? YES F'N Please

That's true. And it's too bad, really. Smash Boards is a very concentrated community of fans. It has members who actually know what they're talking about. The intelligent and informed seemed to outweigh the ignorant here at Smash Boards, where the case seems to be completely opposite in even Nintendo's own community. If you've ever been there, you'd probably know what I'm talking about.

Making specific mention of Smashboards would lead to a great many more people having knowledge of the competitive community of smash that exists and tournaments. This would make them like the game a lot more and want to get better. They will want to play with their friends, and will probably tell them about the smash community. This will lead to more people buying the game. So therefore if Nintendo made specific mention of smashboards in the manual, guide, or on the game case, they would sell more copies and make more money. It's just common sense. We should write some letters and send some e-mails to encourage it. It's seriously a good idea.

SO nintendo should specifically mention a Fan-site before it's official one? That makes no sense and the rest of your arguement is assuming that people (1) Could'nt find out about the competative community any other way and (2) That they're interested in it.
Neither point garuntees Nintendo any extra money, as the game will more than like sell out from Word-of-Mouth and advertising regardless. While Smashboards is a great resource, it is not a determining factor on Nintendo's paydays. People who buy the game will tell their friends regardless, those friends will buy this game IF they have a Wii (or in rare instances, buy a Wii just for this game). It doesn't affect the game either way, so there is no unavoidable reason that Nintendo should specifically mention a fansite before any official Nintendo related site. It likely won't happen

Razgriz I highly agree with your idea but two things I worry about
1. How strongly would the message be shown because even if it is in the front of the manual or even on the case it might be fairly hard to have people think of going unless it said something among the lines of "To learn about tournaments event go to" or "What to get connected? Then join the smash boards community and learn everything about smash."
2. My other worry is that if you put the address to this site on such a public place then the flood of members will of course increase this is the idea but this also cause the smash boards to have to buy more equipment to support all the new people posting, surfing and even making new accounts which they might not be able to do unless membership payment increase...

If it ever goes online, and if we're able to communicate somehow via voice chat or w/e, it'll be easy to refer most to this site =].

Mentioning an unofficial site would certainly be unorothodox, and I never said it was likely. My argument certainly does not rely on the fact that people cannot find out about the competative community any other way or that everyone is interested in it. You are too glued to absolutes. What I am arguing is that MORE people would learn about the competitive community this way. And many people, certainly not "all", but many people would be interested. And certainly the game will sell out immediately, as many good games do, but the effects of making mention of Smashboards would come into effect later, not as soon as they are on the shelves. Sure this doesn't "guarantee" Nintendo will make more money, but it is certainly likely. I know a good number of people who bought Melee, and didn't play it with friends or get into it, and even sold it. (I of course changed their minds later) These guys were telling nobody of Melee. However, knowledge of the competitive community and what is possible will definitely make people want to get better, and enjoy playing more. (Just as a disclaimer, I didn't say "everybody" just now.)

It would be great if Nintendo endorsed this site though...
