Hi guys, recently I got a lot of great advice on the melee board about how to begin improving my game. I play with several intermediate level (top 10 in locals) players every other day. I practice tech every day for 1-2 hours and play another 3-4 hours.
In order to do that I've decided to systematically go down the list of all the possible variables that could affect my performance and try to optimize them. I plan to revise this thread a lot so please let me know if you have suggestions on how to improve it.
POSSIBLE FACTORS IMPACTING SMASH PERFORMANCE:
PERSONAL:
Pattern Recognition
Response Inhibition
Cognitive Processing Speed(input processing time + output processing time)
Working memory
Situational Memory
Distance/Timing Memory
EXTERNAL:
Environment(distractors)
Time spent on deliberate practice
Precision of deliberate practice
Controller quality(I'll make a separate topic about this)
Game knowledge (HUGE and basically the raw material for the processes in the above category)
UNCERTAIN:
Base Reaction Time (can be practiced)
Level/quality of attention at any given time(could be described as both a conscious and unconscious action)
Correct targeting of attention(paying attention to the right thing at the right time)
Emotional state
Hand eye coordination (can be improved within limits)
i.) Reaction Time
First I took the reaction time test from humanbenchmark and over 50 trials I averaged 264ms(51st percentile).
