Advance orders for Super Smash Bros., being released by Nintendo Co. (7974) this month, are at a record and may lift sales of the struggling Wii U console during the holidays, Americas President Reggie Fils-Aime said.
Presales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which reaches stores on Nov. 21, have surpassed Mario Kart 8, Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, said today in an interview at the New York headquarters of Bloomberg News.

“The launch of Mario Kart 8 has essentially doubled our Wii U sales year-on-year,” Fils-Aime said. “Presales for Smash are stronger than the presales for Kart. So our expectation is that the sell-through for Smash is going to be very strong, certainly on par with what we saw with Mario Kart 8. We think the impact on hardware will be similarly dramatic.”

Nintendo has sold more than 1.2 million copies of Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U since its release earlier this year, Fils-Aime said.
That's huge, just in case people don't know, Mario Kart 8 sold 1.2 million in it's first weekend, and MK8 also came with a free game, and Mario Kart always sold better then Smash.

Hopefully this means that the Wii U will pick up some momentum this holiday! Also where are all the haters that said that the 3DS version would make Smash U sell less?

Btw I have to say this: If you don't buy this game considering its content, than you have to be kidding. I will never understand people not buying it EXCEPT they don't like this types of game.

And I am hyped, that means ONLINE I will face lots of people

They are with the people that said Smash Wii U has no chance releasing this year.

At the end of the day though, we don't know which version will sell the most.

Not really surprised honestly. Brawl was poorly received at first because it was SOOOO different from melee. Normally it would leave a bad taste in people's mouth but the 3DS version, since its the same thing with different offline content and levels, has already proven to us this is not brawl2. Its a very good game with very few glaring balance issues (which is a bit of a shocker for any competitive game) and a huge roster. WiiU basically being advertised as a bigger, badder, and in HD version of the already popular 3DS one guarantees its going to sell to anyone that already owns a wiiu (save the few that just dont like smash) and even push some to finally get a wiiu.

Its easily THE best game on the wiiu available.

This is definitely good news for Nintendo, but you can't exactly compare sales between MK8 and SSB4. Both are amongst Nintendo's best-selling series, but from my experience MK has more casual appeal than SSB. As such, it makes sense that SSB would get more preorders, as only dedicated players will bother preordering. MK8 may still very well end up on top in lifetime sales. Not that it really matters. Both games are great, and this can mean nothing but good things for Nintendo and Wii U owners.

Mario Kart always sold better than smash? I'm a bit suprised.
Anyways, this is good news for the Smash Series and Nintendo in general.

I did not know until now that Mario Kart sold better than Smash...and I've always prefer Smash over Mario Kart any day even though I love both of them.

Anyways, hopefully Smash Bros. will achieve something Mario Kart 8 barely did: shoot up the sales for the Wii U.

Great news! It would be even better if they released a bundle, that would definitely boost sales for the console itself.

Is there any way to see the difference between Mario Kart 8 Bundle sales & standalone Mario Kart 8 game sales?
Personally, me and 4 of my friends all bought the bundle because we never had a Wii U before MK8 came out..

Just make a smash bundle with the adapter for around $280. Then sales will really start going.
